Focke Wulf FW-190 D9
Ok, so now for my first foray into the aviation department in a long time! A 1/36th scale Focke-Wulf FW190 D9; pretty close to minifig scale but there's not room for one in there. The "Dora" was one of the best German piston engined fighters in WWII. This particular model is wearing the colors of Jagdgeschwader 26 and comes with an optional drop tank and rack. Looking closely you'll notice two different sets of landing gear: one that fully retracts and one that can actually support the aircraft on the ground (the retractable gear collapse under the weight). I've been influenced by numerous excellent aircraft models around here, Bricklink and Twitter =) Hope you all enjoy!
About this creation

Laying out the first parts.

Careful examination reveals the slight dihedral built into the wings.

An idea of the construction technique used, quite simple really.

And to wrap it up, the Dora with a couple ship WIPs and a Bf-109 built off of Hien's excellent model :)

This FW 190 is actually quite good, wing and tail shapes are great, and the color scheme too. But I think the canopy could need some more work. But still very good.

Quoting ....Alex .... very nice, the only thing that bugs me is the cockpit canopy :D
Thanks Alex :) I'm aware the canopy is a bit clunky, my next bricklink order will hopefully provide a fix. Among other things, I have to redesign the wing attachment, so when all that sorts itself out I should be able to throw together an updated version of the Dora with a snazzier cockpit, new landing gear (maybe?) and maybe more realistic camouflage colors.

Quoting GREG Thompson HOLY FLIP!!! that is excellent! love the shape... but can you do a 190A?
Thank you :) I do plan to do the Anton...though my prototype needs some work (and probably a bricklink order). The 190A is my favorite fighter, so you can bet I want to get it right :P

The overall shape is good, so does the scheme. On the other hand I don't like very much the wheels and the canopy (the canopy is the hardest part).

Its definitive one of the most accurate FW-190 i have seen here so far. Shape, colors, functions (gear)....Brilliant!

Quoting Ben Fellowes Love the zero stud construction. Magnificent as always. I spot some shineys in that last picture... I'm pretty certain it's Warspite, because of the shape of the weather deck forward of X turret. Took me a while to spot the differences between the R class and other QE's but I'd put money on that one. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Ben! Yes indeed! It is (or rather will eventually be) Warspite. I love the QEs, and I really wanted to try out the modernized tower bridges, so Warspite was the logical choice. The Italian Cruiser is Fiume, so I've got a little "Cape Matapan" action going on. The parts to finish them are currently tied up though in something a little bigger :)
