GVX-23FN Zodiac SuperCustom
Special-ordered modifications were made to a standard GVX-23 in order to produce this high-performance space-type 'duelist' AF.
About this creation

Though it lacks any sort of special equipment ('gimmicks'), the SuperCustom carries a high-output beam rifle, twin wrist-mounted dual-purpose saber/vulcans, an anti-material sword and an additional pair of beam vulcans in the chest.

The new spine boosters are mounted along with a SPIKE Drive to give this AF substantial performance in low-gravity combat. Rather than using solid fuel rockets to act as a high-speed attacker, the SuperCustom focuses on vernier performance and agility.

The beam rifle carried by the SuperCustom is no more powerful than the most destructive of hand-carried rifles, but it was designed with a high-yield particle accelerator to give it greater accuracy over range and much higher energy projectile speed.

The anti-material sword can defend against beam and physical blades, but is not sharp enough to cut cleanly through an enemy AF's armor and is often used to viciously bludgeon an opponent. The wrist-mounted beam sabers are still highly effective cutting tools, however.

When I begin the initial design phase of an MOC, I think at length about what sort of 'role' I want it to fulfill in my collection. Do I want it to fly under gravity? Do I want it to a heavy missile compliment or should it use melee weapons? As important as the look of any design is the -feel-. More often than not, I refer to the Gundam Wiki for basic ideas. The breadth and scope of the Gundam franchise's mechanical designs inspire my own, and I do mean -inspire-; very few of my AF's can be directly compared to a given Mobile Suit, but thins like weapon placement, rifle builds, gimmicks and features come from the Gundam sandbox. When writing up the metafiction for the MOC descriptions, it helps to have seen enough Mecha and Sci-Fi shows to understand the basic memes of a the genres. Once you understand the tropes associated with giant robots and space vehicles, you can pretty much spew forth with as much detail as your imagination can provide. The most difficult part of designing my MOC series was deciding on a two-letter acronym for their archetype (like MS, TSF, AS, OF, LFO, etc.). I eventually settled on AF, or 'Armor Frame'. It's generic enough to express the idea that they are man-operated robots without infringing on any existing copyrights!

I have admired your work ever since you were submitting on Design By Me and even before that. Even now, I am still in awe of your brilliant and innovative styling, and every time I see your work, I think... _____'Does this person use any reference, and how do they come up with the names and descriptive details?'

hi cool moc and i have a little question. Could you please send me the background you use for this moc if it is possible? I try to make good pictures with my mocs but it didn`t work very well. Please send it to hawk.strobl@gmx.at thanks for the help.

Quoting ariklego ...The Director! nice! great work, I like this a lot. there's that classic head design of yours in action again. a few tips I have are 1. giving the rifle a different end piece, 2. trying a different sword design (this one just doesn't fit somehow), and 3. shrinking the groin armor down a bit. maybe it's my Western style again, but it just looks a bit odd. anyway, nice job. p.s. I just LOVE that one pose (second to last pic). I can just imagine the rifle firing some immensely-powerful energy beam and vaporizing the Mech in its sights. :P
If you think this thing's nice, wait til you see the next customized design I've got in the kitchen. I'm adding backgrounds to the photos in Paint.NET, so the new MOC will be up soon. :D

Looks really cool! I like the fact that you "balanced" the weapons of the unit.
