Gaston Lagaffe's head
My first comics creation or "bandes dessinées" (B.D.) as we call it here...
About this creation
Gaston is a famous character in France and Belgium. The author, Franquin (1924-1997) is also known for "Spirou & Fantasio", "Idées Noires" and other works.

"Gaffe" means "blunder" in french ; Gaston is an office boy for Spirou Magazine, an imaginary version of the real comic book, and spends his time sleeping, making madcap inventions, breeding animals - at the office...
The character Gaston Lagaffe is often hailed as the first anti-hero (in the sense of a protagonist lacking all heroic qualities, not a villain) in the comic's history (I copied this last sentence from wikipedia, it must be the only one in good english).

A few shots first :

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Fan-tas-tic! I've been reading Franquin's comics since childhood and your Gaston head is absolutely spot on. Are you going to make a series of heads?
Thanks a lot, Mister! Just discovered your MOCs, they're wonderful! I'll take time to comment, but a big thumbs up for Shining, Zombies and the Tardis! Awesome builds... and references! I don't know if I'll be making other heads for now.

My ever lasting comic (anti) hero in bricks! From the other comments, there are a lot of people who know him, and admire the series as much as I do. Thank you for building on this subject. As for the moc : The ears are extremely well made, and make the total a stunning success!! "M'Enfin!?" :-)

Quoting Ru Corder Very nice! The head looks like it would topple over easily, how well does it stay on the body?
Thanks! There's a technic axle inside the neck piece that goes through the head and collar, and it works. But you should not shake the model too hard ! I tried to make a body, but my skills weren't sufficient to make it stand... Maybe another time, in a smaller scale?

Quoting Anders T I think Gaston Lagaffe is known over most of Europe, He's my favourite character of all times (I’m from Denmark). It's the only comic strips that can make me laugh uncontrollably even if I have read them many times over. Franquin was a genius. I look forward to seeing what direction you’re going with your bandes dessinées collection. Mézières, Hergé, Uderzo or maybe some more Franquin characters. Btw good job on the ears. One thing though if you are going for the early Gaston I think the Hair might be wrong and if you are going for the later version the nose may be too small. Another little detail, of you are making the later version, I think the hair pointing out in the front could be even longer, he looks a bit too tidy. Anyways these are just minor details, I really like this moc it's the best Gaston head I have seen.
Thanks for the very detailed comment! From the country of Lego, furthermore! You're right about the hair and nose, but the whole shape has been a pain to make in 3D... So I compromised. Let's say it's Gaston "in between" those two eras, at the time Fantasio handed his job to Prunelle, if you see what I mean? ;) About the collection, I don't know... There will be other characters, sceneries, vehicles, but next time I'll change from Franquin. Perhaps E. P. Jacobs, Hergé, Greg, Uderzo... You seem to have good readings too !

Quoting Hayden. (Zac.) Awesome head bust! I don't know him, but I love his Nose and your representation of him. But why does he only have one eye? If you have time, would you look at this? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/309194 P.S I love the detail and sculpting of the ear!
Thank you! The real one has two eyes (!), but at this scale, I thought it captured the feel (google his name, you'll find some pictures). And if you don't know him, you should read it, it's genius!
