CAT D11R Bulldozer
About this creation
I now present the much anticipated CAT D11R dozer! The D11 is the biggest dozer that Caterpillar makes. It has a Cat® C32 ACERT™ engine in it, which produces 850hp at the flywheel. The C32 ACERT engine has a bore of 5.71in, and a displacement of 1959in^3. Quite a bit bigger than your average car. Spec sheet here if you want more specs. Oh just a cool side note, it goes faster in reverse. Top speed of 8.7mph.

Before I describe all the functions, I would like to thank Jon Treasure his D9 found here was very inspiring. I suggest you go check it out! I got a few ideas from his dozer, Thanks Jon!

Specs:

  • 2 XL motors for drive

  • 1 M motor for blade raise and lower

  • 1 M motor for ripper raise and lower

  • 2 pneumatic pumps

  • 2 pneumatic rams for blade tilt

  • 1 pneumatic ram for ripper tilt

  • 2 linear actuators for blade raise and lower

Here are a couple of pictures of what it would look like to sit in the cab. In the words of my dad, "Its like sitting on top of a mountain" He has operated one before. Another interesting thing is the blind spots, here is a chart with all the blind spots of a D11R. The closest to the blade you can see from the cab is about 13m (43ft)

A picture looking out of the cab down onto the track.

Snow removal is easy with it's 22ft (6.7m) blade, it will move snow like no other.

Of course you wouldn't use this to push snow in a parking lot, this 230581 lb beast would obliterate the asphalt, and its size would make moving around hard.

The main snow removal use would be in the oilfields, keeping roads open, or clearing off a site to dig.

The massive rippers are used to tear apart hard ground, rocks, and anything else that is too hard for the blade.

Look at the width of that blade! It would eat your car up!

Here are some pics of the inner workings. Side note, I built this dozer in one weekend. I started Friday, and finished adding the details on Sunday morning.

Here is the D11R CD (Carry Dozer) I used to help build it.

Thanks again Jon for your inspirational dozer! Also my dad helped alot, and that is his D11R CD model.
Thanks for looking! Tell me what you think!

Quoting Paul Beach Isn't that the Norscot model? I've always wanted one! It's great when you can hold your reference in your hand.
Yes it is! My dad got it when he went to a wheeler conference in Arizona. They are amazing little models. I agree, then you can see all parts of it and build more accurately.

Quoting Joost Cumps Nice, nice, nice! Technical goodies and good bodywork. Can I ask, you go to sleep whenever you're on a project as such? (because everybody's right : you are a very quick builder) :-)
Thanks Joost! Haha Yes, I do sleep. :) I guess I am a pretty fast builder, but usually what ever I'm building is already "built" in my head, all I have to do is translate it to bricks, and make sure all the functions work.

Thanks, Chris! I had thoughts of doing linear actuators all around, but decided pneumatics would be better.
