Battle at Elemental Plateau - WIP 03
Instalment #3. More WIP shots for those who want to study the process I use for landscaping.
About this creation
This will probably take me right up to April to get completed, with many small BL orders having to be made for those specific pieces that everyone manages to run out of on their ambitious builds.

Here the riverbanks have been completed, the undertone for the water has also been completed, the water-surface has also been laid out.

I normally place the tiles down in some sort of pattern, this breaks up the generic lines that side-by-side tiles will create.

Positioning of the towers is required so I can work out the surrounding base for the buildings. These bases will also create some clean space between the towers and the foliage (later on)

A close-up of the towers' foundation.

A shot showing the detail on the framing, its not super-detailed but its enough without taking your eye off the whole scene. One can still find the details if they go looking.

The next four shots show some progression in the design of the buildings, a couple of shots showing me planning some parts ahead of time. This is where the build will sit until those BL orders arrive. I also need to make an order for the transparent 1x2 plates giving each building its coloured accent.

This is it as far as my parts will stretch at this point in time, hopefully I can continue the progress in a few weeks time. Thanks for reading.

Quoting Elk Guard Hi Thoy, I was curious where this one was up to?
I have it at about 95% complete. Have to lay down 60% more foliage and then setup the final scene. I have done the elemental designs too, hopefully I can stretch my parts to have 8 on the board.

The angles are cleverly done! How do you figure out where to put the turntables so that the different parts will connect correctly? Do you use math, or is it trial and error with some guessing?

Quoting Caleb Z. Wow, I can't wait to see this finished. Are you going to be taking this to a Lego convention?
This build is practice for the one I want to take to Brickworld next year. I have to do some practice designing to ensure the real model will cope being shipped 13'000km the the USA. It will take 4 large boxes measuring 600mm*600mm*900mm. Well this is the size for each quarter of the build. This build is just so I can get a better idea of the resources I will need. Ouch!

Quoting Sebeus I No way, you are a regular WoW player ? :O
Used to be, My character is Pandorah on Frostmane realm. Havn't played since well before christmas though, when the next expansion comes out I will probably play to lvl 90 and stop again. After 6.5years it all starts repeating itself. The art is still great fantasy inspiration - I would love to log in every few months just to get some more ideas.

Blimey, that's a lot of bricks. Not surprised you have to wait for BrickLink! It's really helpful to see how you develop the landscape and the buildings, thanks for posting this.

Oh alright. I actually never played WoW, and probably will never do it too. But I like your build. I like to build stuff according to era and geography. Well the geography of the map in my head ofcourse. Still looking forward though!

Quoting Elderon Eldar So if I get this straight; it's going the Middle-eastern (Prince of Persia) direction, rather then the medieval direction? It's looking great man! Thanks for the turntable-thingy technique, that is going to be useful in the future! I've actually made a persian temple (which I'm going to post soon) as kind of an inbetween creation. It kinda has the same colour scheme as this one. But anyway, this looks great! Can't wait! -greetings, Elderon
If its looking Middle Eastern that is completely by accident. Most of my builds don't have a specific era they are designed to fit, but more designed to make up a fantasy world. Similar to World of Warcraft but with my own style, and still within the restraints of everyday physics (unlike the computer game).

Quoting Cody G Looks great so far! Are you going to add a railing to the upper stories? It looks a little bare with just the pillars.
I hope so, this is only 60% complete. All those dome roofs are going to eventually be on top of the pillars. Currently out of the 2x2 inverted slopes :(

Quoting Hayden . This is looking pretty cool!, i love the landscaping and the tower structures! But I find that the white and gold conflict, Maybe if it were black or less gold to a stack of the cylinders. Since your so good at building, including castles would you mind sparing a minute and giving a little feed back on this please? http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/309194
The white and gold do clash, but this is the whole reason why they are used together. In small quantities it looks like nice detailing, in large quantities it gives off a certain effect which looks very prestigious. Cheers

Quoting Marc dZ Very interesting and very appealing! Now I got the trick for the towers'foundations and various castles I've seen accross Mocpages. Very clever! The invention of dark tan was a good idea, I love this color and what it can add to layouts. The gold & white mix really gives a "touch of class" and already brings some brightness to the build. Thanks for sharing, Thoy!!
Thanks Marc, the only issue I have with the gold is that the red accent on the taller tower doesn't come through as much. That foundation technique can be used with smaller turn-tables too, I use the large ones as they can easily click in and out - ideal for modular building.
