A prototype for a model of The World Trade Center that has more detail, and can be built almost entirely out of pieces available in bulk from Lego. My first version was knocked over by a friend in April of 2001.
About this creation
After my first Lego World Trade Center was wrecked, I started on a second one, but I had to take it apart when I moved a few months later. I have now devised a new prototype that has more detail, and can be built almost entirely out of pieces available in bulk from LEGOŽ shop-at-home.
I'd always been fascinated with the design of the plaza and the buildings, and I've decided to give it another try. The design uses lots and lots of 2x2 tiles that are turned up sideways.
This design is 75% smaller than my original WTC but it has about twice as much detail, due to the new design. It also works nicely with the microfig cars that I have built.
The design is, unfortunately, very expensive. The prototype alone cost about $100. That means that each tower would cost about $1200! :( Including 4, 5, and 6 WTC, the whole thing will run me over $3000 in bulk bricks. :( :( :( Sigh!
Well, so I'm not sure if I'll go through with it, unless I find a really generous rich person who wants to see 4 foot tall Twin Towers in Lego. :) I've started plans on everything, which I'll probably upload soon. I've also started construction on the base of the plaza, and we'll see where things go from there. :)

This is a picture of the back, to show you how it is done. The design uses lots of 2x2 white tiles and black plates, that, when turned upright 90 degrees, look like the vertically-oriented facade of the World Trade Center.

Here is a bit of the facade on a microfig scale layout. The blue outlines are where the other buildings would go. There are also some mini people and vehicles in front of the tower.

look man I like the fact that you would make a WTC MOC...but come on...ABSOLUTLY NOTHING NOTHING ABOUT THE ATTACK!!! I mean, yeah, some people don't like talking about it but americans don't look happily at the towers (or the person to show the towers to them) with out some relief of grief, and all you could say is how much money it would cost you...I'm sorry but thats just not right... |
