My own storyline- When a rahkshi reaches a certain maturity or the situation calls for it, a rahkshi will secrete a resin that will start to fuse the Kraata inside to the Rahkshis' metallic form. A cocoon will form from this secretion and eventually the Rahkshi will emerge as a much larger and much more powerful survivor.
