A sliding puzzle with an 8x8 mosaic of a classic LEGO spaceman.
About this creation
I had posted the LDD version of this puzzle a while ago. But it had been spammed with anonymous likes and this way it had become my most liked MOC. So I removed the MOC from the pages. Now I have received the bricks to build this puzzle and I built it right when I came home this evening.
The basic design of the puzzle is from Flickr user mahjqa. I had looked for a puzzle like this with Google Image Search and found this one. The basic design was perfect, I didn't find a way to improve it. The only change I wanted to make was a mosaic instead of stickers on the top.
I chose the head of a red classic spaceman for the mosaic. Then I tried to find a way to arrange the tiles in a pattern which would have 16 unique 2x2 sliders. The result is the best compromise I've found.
So this is my mosaic sliding puzzle.
I hope you like it :-))
Hoo, that was close! I almost didn't finish it soon enough to post it on February 29 ;-)
Quoting David Roberts ... Did you get all of the pieces to interlock? It would be quite a technical challenge. ...
As I wrote in the description, I used the same design as mahjqa. Take a look on his flickr site and you'll see how it works. The basic idea are two 2x2 jumper plates on each sliding piece to create a half stud offset for the second layer of each piece.
A great idea, neatly done! Did you get all of the pieces to interlock? It would be quite a technical challenge. I like the idea for the picture too and hadn't thought about the problem of each piece having to be unique in pattern. This is an excellent MOC because it looks simple but is actually very clever indeed.
