MOCing the 80s
Ah the 1980s, the good old days, Dennis Price’s favorite decade! Build us a MOC that shows something iconic from the 80s. It can be a famous movie such as Breakfast Club or Terminator, a popular TV show such as Magnum PI, Simon and Simon, or Dallas; or famous music, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Motley Crue, Duran Duran. Anything you want, just make it 80’s!
Labyrinth

My favourite childhood film. Made in 1986 by Jim Henson, George Lucas and original puppet design by Brian Froud.
The film stars a young Jennifer Connelly and the legendary David Bowie as Jareth; the Goblin King.
David Bowie in makeup, big hair and tights! Doesn't get much more 80s than that folks!

My main focus with this moc is the David Bowie figure. For those of you who know my work you may also know that this is only the second time I've attempted non-minifigure scale. Its opened up a whole new world to me I must say. An exciting new world that I can't wait to explore some more. I'm not a whizz at it yet, so he took a full 7 hours to build, 5 of those hours on the hair alone...

One of his crystal balls/bubbles/magical peaches that he likes to swirl around in his fingers and look all gorgeous and mystical and evil and brooding...

In attempting to give Jareth some surroundings, I tried to focus on the two things that hover over the entire film. One: the clock. "You have 13 hours in which to solve the Labyrinth, before your baby brother becomes one of us, forever... such a pity."

and two: of course, baby Toby. In his candy striped stretch & grow.

thanks for stopping by.

This is brilliant. I have been perusing your works, becoming a bigger fan by the moment. I don't know how I've missed your works during this MocAthalon, but they are outstanding. Here you have hit on one of my wife's and my favorite movies. Jareth is very well done, and the little red and white striped lump needs no introduction. Fantastic. |

As expected, what you create turns to gold which is why I never grow tired of admiring your work. You always make this kitty warm and fuzzy without any petting required (but most happily welcome)! Meow. |

That movie was SO cheesy, but I do like the MOC. It reflects the movie well, and therefore the gaudy glamor that is the 80's. Keep up the great work! :) |

Excellent work! Love this category, too, Dennis' favorite decade and all. Didn't he say he dressed as Bowie for Halloween one year? Anyway, this is a stunning build, with all the important elements, lighting, composition, all that good stuff. Totally Awesome! |

Miss. Kat, fantastic work here. The shaping of the head/hair by itself is so well done. I would've liked to have seen some more attention to detail on the base. But the figure itself makes up for it. Ultimately though, I feel that it falls just shy of a 5. Your Score: A very solid 4 |

Very nice, Leda! Our main character here is just chock-full of personality. Some good PU and technique to capture form and feeling. The color work is really attractive as well, with the result being focus remaining on the main subject and terrific little compliments to him elsewhere. Yep, I think it's time for me to whip out a 5. Well done! |

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy
Leda, I'm breaking with my own rule not to comment on MOCpages unless the rating counter is working again. In this case, I'll come back again, but I have to tell you right now that I love your MOC as much as I love the movie ... ... ... ... ... and that's very, very much! Every minute you spent on the hair was worth it. Posing and expression are as lifelike as possible. What kind of magic spell to use (to satisfy the judges)? - None, your MOC will do the work.
Oh thank you Thor, I love you so much!!! |
