19. Houston, We Have a Problem
These famous words must be illustrated through your creation. Not too much rules for this one, just make sure you can tie it in with the phrase.
This scene depicts an American astronaut landing on Mars. This is the first time anyone has been to mars... but when he gets there he realizes he isn't the first one to come here. Sticking out of the ground on a far off hill is the Russian flag. Unknown to America, Russia secretly had been trying to beat us to Mars ever since they lost the space race to the moon. They don't know it yet, but they just started up the race again...
The landscape... or maybe Marscape...
This terrain technique is new to me, but it was really fun to build.
The spaceman. This took me the longest out of the whole build. I like how it turned out. I know it isn't perfect, but for a first time doing this scale I think it isn't too shabby.
The best part is he is flexible and can be put in many poses, just like an action figure. This is only one of the many different poses he can do.
Very nice technique on the rock work. For the figure, while the flexibility is nice, I might have opted to eliminate the joints in our space dude. There are a few proportional problems with him and the joints in particular, interfere with that bulky quality we've come to associate with current space suit designs. Score of 3.
This should win. And thats it. After looking at the first pic, I took me a minute but then I saw the Russian Flag! I would really call that a problem. Anyways, the main thing is the astronaut. He looks, well skinny. True, the trip to Mars would take a few months, but even so, he could do well from a pizza or two. The space suit looks like the ones Nasa is planning to use on the future. Overall, excellent, and you will be part of my *long* list of faves.
