2012 MOCathalon: battle of Thermopylae
My entry to the 2012 MOCathalon, I'm on the team Mocers of Middle Earth. This is a build for category 10. Ars Historia, I built the Pass of Thermopylae the last Stand of the 300, funny story, There was originally 7000 allied Greek soldiers in the Pass so King Xerxes of Persia couldn't invade Greece. The 300 were part of this force. For 2 days they held out killing thousands of Persian Immortals. On the second night, a traitor reveled a pass around Mt. Kaliodromos where the Pass of Thermoplyae was. The guards stationed at the pass deserted and the Persian surrounded the last 1,700 troops because Leonidas had withdrawn all other troops to fight another day. around 1400 troops stayed out of honor. The powerful Greek Phalanx broke apart and all of the Greeks were slaughtered. The Persians brought out their archers once more. and the last were killed.
About this creation
MOCathalon
MOCers of Middle Earth
and the needed historical evidence
the last defenders of Thermoplyae and the fallen Spartan King Leonidas.

The dreaded archers of the Persian army, they were hillsmen who equipped with their own bows shot for the army
The even more dreaded Persian immortals, they wore a black cloth on their head, so their face was obscured. They were named Immortals for the fact that when one died or retired, another could easily take his place. They fought easily 10,00 strong. Over 20,000 died in the Pass.

The fallen Spartan King Leonidas. He was shot by archers when the Spartan and ally phalanx broke apart.

The cliffside that the last few soldiers were cornered on.

Overview
the Mighty Persian troops run in to finish it off

The main characters, Dienekes, Leonidas' General and friend, and Leonidas minus arrow

Thanks! I took some creativity to this because we don't know who was the last alive but Herodotus wrote that Dienekes was a fierce fighter, and my person favorite from the novel Gates of Fire. Then i placed some ally forces in various armor or lamellar armor.

Thanks for listening to this history nerd!!

I love the topic you tackled, but the build was kind of rough. Score of 2.

I can see how much thought you put into the creation of the figures and their posing; nice work. ~Dave

Quoting Blake Baer Where are the 295 other Spartans? Haha, I really like the texturing in the landscape but thought the overall landscape could have been better. Score: a solid 2
HA i can't buy the rest of the 295! i tried a dry creek but it looked awkward. the landscape was hard for a cliff
