"Hillbilly Time Cruisers" 2012 Mocathon
About this creation
Category:
21. Time Warp
You have successfully invented a time machine that can take you just about anywhere in time! Do you travel into the future or history? You decide, as you show your time travel in a LEGO creation. Make sure you show us your time machine (so we can steal the design), along with the setting for the time travel.
Team: "A MOCtley Crew"
Mocathon

For this category I made a scene in which the stereotypical American hillbilly accidentally time travels to the industrial revolution, New York city. It all started when old Joel was inventing a new corn powered engine for the annual tractor race. Why power it with corn? Well, because old Joel just so happens to be a corn farmer. He came up with a engine that went so fast, that it shot him into the past. The only problem is, he has no more corn to get back :P

Here is old Joel in the middle of a cobblestone street that is in front of a newspaper company's headquarters.

Here you see some newsboys buying their papers to sell.

That diagonal ledge thing was really frustrating and took me the most time out of the whole build. I think it looks pretty good though. Also you can see another newsboy waiting in line with his little brother.

The inside of the office, sorry the pictures are horrible.

The upper level of the office is just storage.

Some loose papers blowing about the area.

Joel, his shotgun, and his corn.

Thanks for viewing,
Ben

Wow, you've got a real interesting technique for the cobblestone street and sewer manhole cover, Ben. However, here's a thought. Since the Industrial Revolution also had farms and farmers, why didn't your time-travelling hillbilly think of asking a farmer if he could have some corn or work for some corn or something? I mean, the guy IS smart enough to build a tractor that is essentially opeated on ethanol (which is kind of complex to do, especially considering that most tractors are operated by diesel engines), but the fact that he made it run so fast that it hurled him back through time made me think that he's a real genius. However, if and when said hillbilly guy DOES get back to our timeline of reality (provided that he doesn't violate the laws of the time-space continum), then he's got three lucrative business plans that would serve him really well in his future endeavors. The first, and most obvious, one would be to become the first person to actually own and operate and time/space/dimensional travel agency. The second one is to reproduce the technology in this tractor and to franchise said tractors and make MORE time/space/dimensional travel agencies. The third and final business plan is to simply compete in tractor pulls. I mean this guy has a tractor that ripped a hole in the time/space continum, so he should be beating the socks off of his opponents in those tractor pulls now, right?

3's and 4's????? What????? This is one of the better MOCs in the contest? I am really surprised this didn't get higher scores. You really saved some amazing techniques up your sleeve! This is fantastic!

Quoting Blake Baer If one more person uses that cobblestone street technique, I am gonna scream! Jokes aside, a beautiful entry. It could use some more details because it looks relatively bare in some sections. Score: a solid 3
Yeah, it is pretty baer... get it? Sorry, I couldn't resist the lame pun :) I know it is bare and the cobblestone is totally cliche. I had a different technique designed but I didn't have the pieces or time. The same goes for the bareness.

Um...okay...not really sure what to think here. Awesome build, but weird inspiration. I love the street and the diagonal ledge. I'm not really sure about the weapons in storage though. Nice overall build. Love the tractor. Great build!

Great MOC! I like the wall and the arch above the doors - it's a great design and I hope to give it a try myself. MOC as a whole catches the right atmosphere. Well done.
