“C’mon.” Blast urged as they got nearer to the open door.
Suddenly Flare shouted in pain, grabbed his arm and ducked down. They continued to run but then a stack of wooden crates unexpectedly exploded nearby sending slivers and shards of wood flying in all directions. The pair was showered in splinters but just then they reached the open door and dived in.
The room they had gone into was a barely-lit storeroom, full of crates. There were no lights and no windows so the only light entering came in through the door. They collapsed against the wall just next to the door and sat panting for a couple of minutes.
Flare pulled his hand away from his arm and revealed a sticky, bloody mess. He too had been shot.
“It’s a bloody miracle we weren’t killed.” Blast said watching him and clearing bits of fabric from his own wound at the same time.
“Yeah.” Flare agreed.
Blast leant on the wall to help himself up then hobbled across the room to he nearest stack of crates and started rummaging.
“What are you looking for?” Flare asked watching him.
“Cloths to bandage our wounds.” He replied. “Ah; here we go.” He pulled a large shirt out of a crate near the back of the room
then hopped back to Flare and slumped down to the floor again.
He ripped a strip off of the shirt and handed it to Flare who started wrapping up his arm wound.
“BLAST!! FLARE!! THIS IS IADSGB! COME OUT WITHOUT YOUR WEAPONS AND WITH YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR!” Iadsgb’s voice boomed from outside and the U.R.S. leaders froze listening. “IF YOU COMPLY, YOU WILL BE SPARED. IF YOU DON’T, YOU WILL BE KILLED.”
“Fat chance.” Blast muttered.
“So what do we do now?” Flare asked.
Blast sat silently for a moment. “I don’t know. I honestly don’t. My comlink is on The Manipulator, you haven’t got one hooked up to the U.R.S. channel yet. We don’t know where we are being shot at from. If we stay here, sooner or later we’ll be captured or shot.” Blast ripped another strip off and wrapped it around his injured leg.
“So basically we either sit here and wait to be either killed or captured, or we go out there and try to hold them off while we escape.” Flare concluded.
“It seems that they are our only options, yes.” Blast wrapped another strip around his leg and made sure that the wound was tightly bound. Flare finished wrapping his arm and put his head back against the wall. The pair sat in silence for a few seconds.
“I say we go for it.” Flare said without moving. Blast slowly turned his head to look at him.
“It appears that we agree.”
Flare turned to look at him and the pair stared at each other for a moment then Blast looked away and pushed himself up. Flare got up too and both leaders picked up their weapons.
“Well, it was nice knowing you.” Blast said and the pair shook hands.
“If I should fall and you make it back to The Manip’, could you please tell them what has happened and make sure that Padfoot becomes the new head of the U.R.S.?” Blast asked.
“Of course. And if I should fall and you make it back, then remember me fondly.” Flare replied.
“I shall.” Blast smiled and even though Flare couldn’t see it under the helmet he could tell he was.
“Let’s go.” Blast said, grinning. “CHARGE!!” he bellowed.
The pair leaped from the door, firing randomly into the square.
Iadsgb stood in the middle of the square staring at the open doorway, waiting for something to happen. He looked over his shoulder as twenty-odd other hidden F.I.S. troops appeared and stood in various positions around the area. He turned back to the door and frowned to himself slightly.
“CHARGE!!” Blast’s voice rang out and suddenly the two U.R.S. leaders were jumping from the doorway and lasers were flying from their guns. Iadsgb ducked and yelled “FIRE!”
Blast’s eyes widened as he suddenly realized that the square had filled up with F.I.S. troops. Iadsgb shouted, “FIRE!” and Blast realized that they were doomed. Flare gasped and the F.I.S. guns let rip.
All seemed lost as the lasers flew towards them but in that exact instant, an enormous turbolaser blast from somewhere above smashed into the side of one of the buildings surrounding the square behind Iadsgb and to his left. The corner of the building exploded and bricks flew everywhere.
The F.I.S. ducked for cover but suddenly the square was filled with Clone Troopers running in from all directions, firing at the F.I.S. forces. Blast and Flare didn’t stop to think and joined in the firefight.
Blast looked over to his left at the entrance to the square where he and Flare had walked through earlier and saw Padfoot march in firing his blaster into the fray, closely followed by the rest of the U.R.S..
Then Blast looked up into the sky as suddenly a giant, rumbling Venator-class Republic Attack Cruiser flew slowly overhead.
Iadsgb snarled and fired back at the enemy forces. Slowly he started walking backwards towards one of the entrances to the square then sped up and turned and ran, disappearing from sight out of the square.
And then just as suddenly as it started, the battle was over. The F.I.S. troops were dead and the Clones had started to gather up the bodies.
Blast and Flare walked over to Padfoot who was giving orders to a couple of troops.
“Well, I think it’s fairly safe to say that you arrived just in the nick of time.”
Blast pulled his helmet off, ran his hand through his hair and stored his helmet under his arm.
“I’m glad that you are both safe.” Padfoot replied.
“How did you know we were in trouble?” Flare asked.
“Well I had contacted Coruscant and double checked the co-ordinates we were meant to be going to, and the officer gave me a completely different set to the ones Charge gave us.”
“So Charge lied to us?”
“It appears so. The officer on Coruscant said he would contact the Captain of the Venator and tell him to come to meet us here. I was on the bridge and just at that moment I saw an explosion go off somewhere in the square and knew something must be up.”
“That must had been the crates exploding.” Flare looked at Blast who nodded in agreement.
“So I went to the other leaders and got them all together explaining that something must be wrong and we were just getting ready to come and see what was happening when I got a message from the Venator’s Captain, saying that they would be with us in a couple of minutes. So we waited for them to arrive, explained the situation to them, then came to rescue you.” Told Padfoot.
“Sirs. A republic soldier came up to them and saluted crisply. “Supreme Commander Iadsgb is NOT amongst the bodies. He must have escaped.”
“Thank you trooper.” Blast said and the man saluted again before walking off.
“Typical. Mind you, I’m not surprised.” Blast commented on the news.
“Yeah. He’s survived worse than this, I wasn’t expecting to get him this time. This was just a rescue.” Padfoot explained.
Blast nodded. “Right. Lets clear this mess up and get back to The Manipulator. Padfoot, contact the Venator’s Captain and tell him to land by The Manip’.”
“Sir.” Padfoot acknowledged the request, walked off to make the call and Blast and Flare walked back into the square to assist in the clean up.
