About this creation
Here we have my latest creation. This was the product of a few objectives and inspirations. The first objective was to build a ship without wings...
“But, Tim, this ship clearly has w…”
“Yes. Yes, I see the wings. I ask you to be patient and please stop interrupting me.”
Where was I…
Oh, yes, a ship without wings. The other objective was inspired by such things as Gundam Mobile Suit and Starship Troopers, (the book, not the movie. I'm a bookstore manager, so I'm one of those annoying people that always say, "Read the book, it's so much better than the movie.") Anyway, in Robert Heinlein's book, he describes the suit as much heavier, robotic armor than the movie makes it out to be. Sort of a power suit. Like Gundam. Anyway, I was thinking about that and wondering what it would be like if there was a power suit for an otherwise defenseless starship. The last inspiration was the Jedi Starship that Obi-Wan flew around in Episode II, with the attachment for travel at the speed of light. With that, I give you The Prowler and the Carrier.
This one is all about the details, and I may have gone overboard with the greebles. I will let you be the judge. Thanks for checking it out and please let me know what you think.

Greebles.

Greebles.

A shot of some of the greebling in this MOC.

More greebling. My 5-year old daughter insisted on the little blue 1X1's, stating that it will give my ship power. Seeing as that I would love my ship to have power, I took the Munch's advice. Thanks, Kiddo.

A good look at the rear of the ship as a whole, my favorite area as far as detail is concerned. Oh yeah, and more greebles.

The front of the ship flips down...

Then the canopy flips up for exit.

A really grainy look at the cockpit. I can't seem to stop the grainy.

Top View. Greeble, greeble, greeble, greeble, eggs and spam.
Okay, now for the cool part of this build.

For the next couple of pics, watch the area that is circled here.

The braces flip out...

Then the locks.

A dramatic shot of the Prowler pulling away from the Carrier, probably for some stealth recon, (cue action theme music).

The separated pieces together.

The Prowler alone.

The underside of the Carrier.

The Carrier alone.

There's so much going on with this MOC. Loads of great greebling, splitting in two functionality, good greebling, shwoosable shape, gorgeous greebling, nice cockpit opening design and some grand greebling. I agree with your daughter: the little clear bits on the fronts of the engines just add that bit of interest, without being distracting. Excellent work! |

My mind is blown! I actually really like all of the greebles, and even with all the greebling, the ship still manages to stay nice and flowy. And, of course, the breakaway function is insanely awesome!
Glad you like the greebles. I was starting to feel as though it were overgreebled, and when I started to feel that it was overgreebled, I decided to just cover it in greebles, so I greebled more. Yeah, I like greebles. |

This is awesome! Personally if the shape looks good i think you can not have too many greebles. I tend to do that allot but tried to restrain from my latest spacecraft (please take a look and tell me what you think). back to your build, i just love it! happy building! :D
Thanks. Glad you like it. I'm of the school of thought that greebles take a MOC from a smart design to a great build. |

For the grainy pics - Turn the ISO setting all the way down on your camera if you can.
Also, some cameras just suck at photographing dark things so they produce all that noise/grain in shaded areas.
Thanks for the advice. I will play with those settings some more and see if I can't get any improvement for my next build. |

Thanks for the comment. Also for being the first to acknowledge the comic genius of Monty Python. I was beginning to think that my reference was too subtle...know what I mean? Nudge, nudge, snap, snap, grin, grin, wink, wink, say no more. Also, I have absolutely no experience with Halo, so it was not an inspiration. |

I've been looking forward to seeing something new from you, and this is just great. A real leap forward from your last MOCs I think. The coherence of he modelling is fab. This looks like a seriously designed model.
Thanks a lot, David. I always like hearing what you have to say. I can only hope that I improve with each build, so if this is a leap forward, then things are going the way they should. I put no time at all into designing these MOCs; they just kind of evolve as I build. I'm sure that costs me a lot of time. And I was at work all day today, so I missed its run on the front page. Bummer. |

Awesome build and very timely too. There are so many great MOCs in the MA2012, but I have been hurtin' for some good old fashion space & military type stuff- even better when it is well-done.
Yeah, I agree. I love seeing all the great creations in the MocAthalon, but it's not my thing. I can't build fast enough and if you looked at my page, you saw that sci-fi is just what I do, (not to say I won't branch out at some point). So, I just sit back, take my time, and build my spaceships. Thanks for the comment. |

Excellent. I love the shape of the total build, I've always been a fan of backwards wings, very neat. The fact that it can split into two crafts is really neat also! Looks like it would be a fun set to fly around the house.
Thanks. And it is fun to fly around the house, though there isn't much to hold on to, so it's always a little scary that it will drop and become a pile of plastic on my floor. |

Thanks a lot Daniel. This one took me a while, and in trying to fit all the greebling into the little nooks, it became the most annoying MOC I've done yet. But I am pretty thrilled with how it turned out. Glad you like it, too. I haven't seen anything new from you since you made my skin crawl with that devil beast spider you built.
