Quoting phillip covel So how does the magazine work, where do you put the shell in?
The magazine is just an open space the middle of the gun and and you put the shell in the top. There is a youtube video showing the functionality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIvld2GcGks

Quoting phillip covel .I would love to know how to buid the mechanism
The mechanism is gravity operated; when the shotgun is pumped, the bottom of the magazine is pushed up holding the unused shells in place and the ejection hatch opens and the used shell falls out.
