A very big welcome to all who are viewing this new Battlestar
About this creation

I formally introduce “The Battlestar Valkyrie”.
.............

Adama’s previous command before being assigned to the World’s famous Battlestar Galactica.

This is my rendition of the Valkyrie from all the remarkable images from the net and what I could partly extrapolate from the movie “The Plan”. I guess if I had a blueray player and dvd’s I could have seen more detail.

I like the look of the Valkyrie, it is very Gothic styled

16 small dual mounted turrets,
35 heavy dual turrets capable of firing missiles,
Unknown number of point defence guns,
at least 6 ship-to-ship missiles silos.. that is what it is said to have …..

This is all Lego from stem to stern. When I thought to build this one it was going to be much smaller than it is. Spending a lot of time over a 5 month period ( did not do a time count) and many constructions and deconstructions while the build continued, To strengthen its structure I added an 8 stud wide x 6 plates high and 2.4meters long strap down the middle of the ship to act as it’s back bone.

The body is very unique as there are many angles which allowed for more detail and the engines were a real challenge. I had 4 attempts to get them to look so nice.

The pods are attached to each other through the body to assist in strengthening and preventing them sagging too much.
Please enjoy

Getting to the big question how big is this model
Dimensions
3100 mm Long X 1100 mm wide X 380mm high.
122 inches long X 43.3 inches wide X 14.9 inches high
Pod size / landing bays
1320mm long X 235mm wide X 145mm high
51 inches long X 9.25 inches wide X 5.7 inches high.
Element count 42,341
Weight is a staggering 50.3kg
Or 110.9 pounds

I had to construct a rolling platform to move it into the garage as the house was too small to take photos. Placing the model on a well padded 1200mm x 2400mm board, tilted on it’s edge to get through the doors down the stairs across the grounds to the garage.

It took two to do the moving. I also constructed a jig to lift the ship up to place it on the custom built stand. 3 days of photographing the top side, back on the hoist to shoot the under belly unfortunately the straps were in the way so I decided to flip the ship over. BAD MOVE!!!!!!!! It was not strong enough to hold together with all the creaks and gowns over the past 3 days, a few seconds later it was all over the garage floor. That made the decision easy to keep or not to keep.

I could go on and on and on about this build but I won’t.

HERE ARE SOME DETAILED IMAGES FOR YOU

I hope you enjoyed the images. Please also take a few moments to rate it, under the first image..
If you would like to see more images of the Valkyrie please go to the brickshelf address below and see more eye candy.

Many thanks to all.

Thank you Brett for your comment. Glad you liked it.
Yes another beast bites the dust. I do make them too large. If I had a massive display building and endless supply of bricks.... I would be in paradise. Cheers. |

Absolutely beautiful work, Gary! I can certainly appreciate the amount of dedication, planning, and investment (both financially and time-wise) that a ship of this magnitude requires...not to mention the sheer skill. There are few out there who could've tackled such a project and achieved such success. Congrats on an incredible build, and thanks so much for sharing these images with us!!! Also ( this is constructive criticism ) if you are building a huge model with such great level of detail, the only way to do it real justice is by shooting a video with slow fly-bys. Hahahaha, sheesh! Mate, you are a freak. And this breaks the 3 meter barrier. That must have been the mother of all explosions when it hit the floor, I can just hear it! I once dropped a huge Moc, and it just staggerred me how much cleaning up it required. With 42000 bits you must have just used a broom and shovel? Well, to address the Moc itself, sheer beauty. I am feeling rather inadequate, lol... Fanatstic effort mate, I am wondering when someone is going to offer you some dosh for one of these bad boys...
Thank you Parrington for your comment. The almighty crash seemed in slow motion. Shame I did not have the video camera rolling at that time. That would have been funny to see. OH well not many belly shots were taken that were any good. Yes a broom was used in the clean up. Thanks again and keep up the great Mocing. Cheers |

What can I say that has not been said before. This is certainly one of your finest builds to date! Maybe, it's just because I just love Gothic or could it be the super detailing, you keep pushing the boundaries of what can be done in Lego. Again, fantastic! Regards.
Thank you Mark for your comment... It was well worth doing even though it last long. The shape and detail certainly set it apart from other Battlestars.
Cheers.

Well, Sir Barto will have an heart attack when he'll see this..... OK !! so please continue to do some marvelous ship lke that... cheers.
I thank you very much Christophe..... You can speak now..... I will do my best to create a bad and ugly craft for you. Elbarto avoided a heart attack ..... Your builds are just and equally impressive if not more so... Keep building and inspiring others with your alien ship.. I love it. Cheers

Excellent build !! I like the not-in-rendered-space pictures more. Also ( this is constructive criticism ) if you are building a huge model with such great level of detail, the only way to do it real justice is by shooting a video with slow fly-bys. |

Absolutely stunning build! I've dropped a few MOCs before and its terrible. I couldn't imagine building something of this size and detail and dropping it... I would be devastated! |
