Hello there! My name is Edgar Brook, and I... I am a time traveler.

It all started a while back, I would tell you the amount of years, but being a time traveler, years have become irrelevant. The year it all started in though was 1832, and I was in London.
Anyhow, I had just received a parcel, and in that parcel were the exact directions to build a time machine.

For whatever reason, be it my interest with time travel, a vague since of destiny, or just sheer boredom... I followed the instructions and built the machine.
And oh, was she a beauty!

Along with the instructions there was a note, explicitly stating that I set the machine to the year 2012. This I did, and then fired her up.

When the machine's engines slowed down, I was at first disappointed by what I saw. I was in the same room! Nothing had changed!
But then I realized all of my tools were gone! I was in the future, and sometime between
1832 and 2012 someone had removed my tools.

I rushed out of the basement and out into the street.
Indeed! Everything had changed!

All of a sudden a man in strange clothes rolled up to me on a bizarre wheeled board. Wait, no this can't be right! But it was... the man was me!

He walked up to me.
"Well this is awkward," he said,
"I don't have much time, so I can't explain everything, and actually I don't understand it myself. But we need to switch clothes, I need to go to to the time machine and go back to that night when I, and you I guess, first got the instructions. You have them?"
I had brought them in case the time machine broke, so I handed them over to myself now.
"Good, do you understand now?"
I shook my head, I had no bloody clue what was going on!
"I, er, you, are the one who gave you the instructions! You see? We've created a perfect time cycle! Why you ask? Why not just not give yourself the instructions, and save yourself all this? Well, these instructions are dangerous, imagine what would happen if they fell into the wrong hands! A limitless amount of unthinkable things. But now we have forever locked them in the time cycle!"
"Why not just destroy them?" I ask.
"Because they don't just exist in this time frame, every possible fraction of a second can be frozen into a time frame, and it would be impossible to destroy them in every single one."
"So what am I supposed to do?"
"The same thing that I just did. We'll switch clothes, you ride away on the skate board, and then come back tomorrow at the exact same time as I came today. You'll meet yourself, just like I met you, and then explain to you, what I just explained to you."
Although my mind was sore from trying to comprehend all of this, I thought I understood the gist of what was going on.

I did as he said, switched clothes with him (me) and rode away on the wheeled board.
Okay then! That was inspired by Doctor Who and Lost, but mostly Doctor who.
If you had any trouble understanding that at all, these quotes might help:
"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect, but actually from a non-linear, non-subjective viewpoint - it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff." ~The Doctor
Or a less confusing quote:
"Time travel's a b*tch." ~Sawyer from Lost.
This is possibly my last entry, I may be able to throw together a couple more though.

I'm always in for a good time travel story. Pity the time machine didn't have a PFU (paradox-free-unit), hehehe. |
