GT40 Mk1 Lightweight (Alan Mann Racing)
The legendary GT40 (Alan Mann livery). HOG steering, opening doors, hood and engine cover, stripped out racing interior and detailed engine bay.
About this creation
Inspired by and built for the Classic Race Teams Group. The aim of the group is to recreate the race teams from the 50s, 60s and 70s – the Golden Era of racing. Check out the group for loads more cars, transporters and support vehicles.

I have chosen the Alan Mann / Ford Race Team who competed in many different racing categories throughout the 1960s. I have already built Alan Mann's Fiat Bartoletti Transporter. And I am delighted to say that the very talented Joost Cumps, Austin Nomorinfo and Patrick Star have also built cars for this team.

I will let the photos do the talking, sorry there are so many. I hope you like it :D.

Quoting Starscream Soundwave I've come back for another look, and it seems last time I was here I didn't look properly. This is truly amazing! I love big cars that have detail everywhere, even in places you can barely see. Perfect cars, in other words. The interior is brilliant, and the engine is outstanding. Steering is also a nice feature, something I hope to include in my next large moc, even if its not controllable. All in all, fantastic moc, and sorry for not saying all of this the last time I was here ;D
Thanks SS, no need to apologise :D. Well, if your Saleen S7 is anything to go by your next big moc is going to be another cracker.

Quoting David Roberts What a brilliant rendition of this classic car. I love the way that you've captured the nose, with its air scoops and vents in Lego. The engine has some good detailing too. Coupled with your amazing transporter, this is an impressive MOC.
Thanks David. This was one of my most complicated builds. The nose (being 17 wide) was very difficult but the doors were sooo frustrating that I almost smashed the thing to pieces on several occasions.

Quoting TheLegoNoitAll . btw thanks for add me as a favorite! i already had you due to this car, great job! and is that 17 wide, that's an unusual width, i guess it was for the stripes?
Dude thanks you for the 100th like!!! I have been watching this one creep up for a while now. It is one of my personal favourites :D although I am still not completely happy with it (I never am). Yeah, 17 wide was an experiment due to the stripes. It was a nightmare but I really wanted the stripes to be one stud apart (not 2). I am a bit of a purist so I don’t like to use stickers (however I do like other people’s creations with stickers) it is just not for me. I also purposely leave studs showing which is not to everyone’s taste. Thanks again :P

Quoting Nathanael Kuipers
Hi Nathanael. Thanks for the feedback. Although it retains some features of the ‘failed’ version it has also gone through many changes. The steering mechanism is very simple but making sure that the wheels didn’t rub on the inside of the arches and wells was a real challenge. Especially due to the front lights and angled nose. I totally agree about the back – but when I tried a longer rear end it didn’t look right, I must have a dimension or two wrong somewhere. I am not going to talk about the doors – they were a nightmare. ;). Thanks again and I am really glad you like the stud and smooth mix.

  April 3, 2012
Glad to see you finished this model! I bet it went through some serious redesigns. There's a good balance between studs and tiled surfaces and the stripes work great too. Must have been difficult to get the steering to work, but you managed that fine as well. Perhaps the rear end could have been slightly longer. The front however is very nicely done.

Quoting Nils O. Great job! :-))
Thanks Nils :D. The Vette is my personal favourite too but I have to admit I have leaned to love this one aswell. To be honest I think it looks better in the photos than in the brick. The steering lock is excellent and makes the moc very playable. Even my kids like playing with it. The doors where very difficult and the one bit I do not like. They work fine but are a touch taller than the roof. Thanks for your support buddy :D
  April 2, 2012
Oh, I forgot the doors! They must have been tough to build, especially with the opening roof section. Great job on this detail, too :-))

Yeah, Joe, you did it! Congratulations on overcoming the MOCblock! The result is awesome, you really got it right. The shape is very exact, and the curves are cool! You've added some great details (interior, engine, cooler, headlights,...) and a great steering function (that center console used for the HOG steering is awesome!). And then the scale matches your transporter, too. This one is definitely one of your best (there's still the Corvette, though)! Great job! :-))

Quoting Chris Melby That's a whole new take on the front fender!, and I love the wheel details. Combine it with the carrier, and well, it has simply left the building! Dope M!
Thanks Z ;) I am very proud of the both. I know the studs aren't to everyone's flavour, but as you can see I like to leave studs showing. Thanks for you continued support.

Let the kids go hungry ;-) Amazing work Joseph! I couldn't do any better. Love the rhubarb and custard look and as I said when I saw this in person I love all the fine details you crammed in here. Looks great with the Big blue truck :-) Congrats on the blog and a fine piece of Legomotion!

This MOC is so good that I had to get a second look. :) I'm still amazed by the front! BTW, do you know any good steering/suspension mechanism that I could use for a SUV RC car?

Quoting LukeClarenceVan The Revanchist Impressive! The angled down front is my favourite bit, although the whole car's brilliant. Great work!
That bit was a nightmare but I am very pleased with the outcome - lots of tricky connections to create it. The hardest bit by far was the overhanging doors, which I am not so happy with. Thanks for the interest. :)

Quoting Lego Builders Wow, this is great! You just keep getting better and better! The front is fantastic! But I'm not fond of how the rear is connected. :) 5/5 -LB Jr
Thanks LB Jr. Yeah I know what you mean, I am not keen on that little gap behind the wheels. I could fill it with a grilled cheese wedge (1x2) but it can only be frictioned in, I don't like to use 'illegal' connections. It was also very difficult to reduce down to 17 studs wide (for the stripes) and also trying to include the opening engine cover. Glad you like it. :D

Quoting Joost Cumps Wow Joe! This is everything I was looking for, and more! Nick is right : Firas with studs, or a new building style. Congratulations!
Thank you so much Joost and another big thank you for your support during the 'failure' stage. So time for a new team. Anyone fancy building a Gold Leaf Lotus or three?

Quoting Chris Roach The lines and curves and detail are spot on!
Thanks Chris. It was a difficult build but I got there in the end. Those curves aren't easy to recreate in the studded style. Phew!
