A shoulder joint I quickly made with some parts lying around, it is quite pose-able and it can handle a lot of weight.
About this creation
I actually made this after today browsing some of RGF's old work (this model in particular http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/254928 ) and seeing him write that one of the reasons he didn't finish it was the weakness of the shoulder joint, and if anyone could recommend a joint. Well, I had some time so I made this prototype, it has a lot of room for refinement.
Here, to test how much it could hold, I quickly mounted a jedi starfighter, and none of it is touching the ground yet the joint is holding up, so it should be able to handle a lot of weight.
The other criteria was pose-ability, so I took a few pictures of how far it can rotate in a few directions.
Here is a picture of the weight I used in most pictures, which is in fact a leg (well, leftover of a leg) from a mech I made some time ago but did not put on MOCpages. It roughly simulates a large arm.
And here is a brief picture of the mechanism (yes, I know, very bulky!)
If anyone is going to try to make this, make sure that you secure both of the parts which are meant to be attached to the object well, as they have to be very sturdy or will break off very easily.
Tell me what you think!
P.S. The date, and time, on my camera is wrong, just felt like mentioning it.
