Bricks By The Bay 2012 Recap Vol I
Once upon a Thursday dreary, while I sipped my ale, weak and weary, from many long and tedious meetings of a governmental bore. While I sipped, nearly chugging, suddenly there came a tapping, as of some beast gently rapping, rapping at my front door. "'Tis some visitor," I grumbled, "tapping at my front door – it had better not be any of those bible-thumping bores” Thus continued the insistent rapping, the horrendous beat repeating, and it thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before; so that now, to still the shaking of my hand,( which was spilling my beer) I stood repeating, "'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my front door - Some late visitor entreating entrance at my front door; - not a bible-thumping heathen, just a visitor. It is this it is, and nothing more." Presently my will grew stronger; hesitating then no longer, "Sir," said I, "or Madam, truly your forgiveness I implore; But the fact is I was drinking, drinking, and drinking even more, and so gently you came rapping, and so faintly you came tapping, tapping at my front door; that I scarce was sure I heard you"- and here I opened wide the door; - and before me stood Hansi………..and nothing more.
About this creation

Mister Bones: ‘Ello, ‘Ello! First off, most humble apologies to Edgar Allan Poe. Secondly, apologies to my fellow LUG members for my most inexcusable truancy in posting this recap of Bricks By the Bay 2012. So this picture is fitting to kick it off, ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages, I give you……SIG HANSI and his conscious! (The rather spooky eyes in the main picture belong to the real HAnsi) Now for the rest of the photos of BBTB held 17-19 March 2012 in Santa Clara California. I did not get any builder’s name because, well…..I really did not care too, it was like some giant introverted nerd fest, so I entertained myself by talking with my wife and Hans and drinking. It really was nice having a bar in the hotel lobby a mere 100 yards away.

A boat.

A bigger boat

A little slice of Rome

A big chunk of Rome (Actually, this build and the map of Greece were built by a father and son team who were really nice folks)

A map of Greece, built by the aforementioned son

A very cool middle ages village and castle layout…..and some guy in a goofy hat (By the way, he wore this same outfit EVERYDAY…I kid you not)

A police box that someone said was from Doctor Who

A very cool building

Awesome mosaic of a pooch

Two most excellent dinosaurs

Allegedly, this is Hogsmeade and not a Chinese restaurant….I don’t see it.

Tron

Some really cool Star Wars chess sets. The builders were some of the biggest nerds I have ever encountered, but they can build. They actually got upset that my wife took these pictures, of course when I walked up they shut up real fast…They were probably confused why a good looking woman was interested in their build. Like I said, bloody introverts.

This was nice looking, but taking existing Lego sets and tossing some war stuff in front of them did not strike me as very inventive. The kid you see between the buildings is a boy, I swear, apparently his barber was on strike.

This, thing, actually won an award. Still not sure why, I mean it was kind of cool, lots of playability features, but……..damn its ugly!

I think this was an octopus fighting a serpent, pretty cool build though.

Hans spent A LOT of time staring at this sculpture.

One for Parrington!

My Journey To Immortality tower with some new figs and a new level. The person sitting behind the tower was a very nice and classy lady who had a great son. Very polite and well mannered young man.

Hansi’s award winning mech!.

Here is Hans’ “Meditation”.

Hans’ Batmobile.

Mister Bones’ “Monster Tower Redux” I added two level, Zombie and Angel of Death from Monster Tower 2 and changed the top level to Bones and the Invisible man. This tower has now been completely dismantled and I have started building a 17 level Monster Tower, called “Monstrosity”.

Hans’ award winning and very, very cool “Black Fantasy”.

This won an award at BBTB, and deservedly so, it was a most excellent Vietnam War layout.

The show stealer, Isenguard…Isengard….Izenguard……whatever.

This was truly a magnificent creation. Some more shots.

Dem Notes: So that is it for this first of two entries I will post, you can see Hansi’s recap here . Up next we will look at the VirtuaLUG layout that Hans and I organized and that 10 people from 3 countries contributed to, stay tuned! Shall I now stop drinking? No, I shall keep on drinking……evermore.

I believe that same Isengard was at BrickCon. Taking that behemoth from Seattle to California gives a whole new meaning to LUG.

Quoting Evan Bezeredi To who does the lady in red belong? I very much want to see more of his work if he is here on MOCpages or flickr or DeviantArt. That is the most magnificent figure I've seen that has been made of LEGO!
I do not know, but I agree they were amazing, the red and black figures were done by the same person. Hans might know the name.

Thank you for this journal. It's always nice for everybody who couldn't be there to get an impression of what he or she had missed. Especially when it starts with Poe. --- I like, of course, the police box, but even more the huge building, the homage to the late, fantastic Moebius and the LUG stuff. Why did Hans spent a lot of time staring at the rabbit sculpture?

Looks like great fun! Some excellent builds, who knew Hans still had that MocAthalon entry lying around? Also, amusing commentary; you sound like you're judging these MOCs!
