A vintage Dutch FTF brick truck from 1978 built on scale 1:13. Something which I always wanted to do since the mid 80s but it took till spring 2012 before I completed the model.
About this creation
Something which I always wanted to build is a vintage Dutch truck, the FTF. Many of you never heard about it but FTF built more ore less one of a kind vehicles from the 60s till 1995. They had to stop production because it was too expensive to design a new vehicle and all big European manufacturers had their own heavy duty vehicles in their standard delivery program.
The basis for this 1:13 scale model is another LEGO FTF built by 'Legotrucker'. He's also a truck builder and I thought his model is great. I used his cab but started to modify it. Most important design change is the front panel which is wedged on my cab instead of straight. I had to use many SNOT to get the right shape of the cab which is, of course, the most striking part of such a model. Underneath the tilted cab there's a Detroit Diesel 8V71 engine with exhaust pipes, gear lever, radiator etc. Bot front axles are steered and the tandem is driven.
It took a couple of year to collect al facts and figures of this particular rig. It isn't in service anymore for a long time and when the current owner made an advertisement of selling the drawbar trailer in a magazine I immediately got in touch with him. I took my camera with me an took some pictures and measured everything. The guy also showed me the history of this FTF so I was able to build it. However, it took till October 2011 before I actually started with it. Within four months it was there so pretty fast compared to some of my previous models. I was really fun building and I got lots of respond within the Dutch truck communities.
