Model completed in 2002. Updated in 2004.
About this creation
This is version 2 of my microfig Chrysler Building. The original version was built primarily out of 'light gray'. I wanted more color contrast between the exterior and the crown. Most other Lego versions seem to use white for the building's brickwork, however I opted to use the rare 'very light gray' color for as much of the exterior as possible. Unfortunately this element is only available in 1x1 plates, which made constructing this model a little more challenging. As with all my micro skyscrapers, this one is built to an approximately common scale. I relied heavily on the photographs found in David Stravitz's excellent book The Chrysler Building: Creating a New York Icon, Day by Day.

Backside of the building shows the three story annex that was added on shortly after completion of the tower.

Believe it or not, stacking columns of 1x1 plates together to form a wall is not as fragile as you might think. Because of small misalignments when stacked, the plates actually slightly interlock with their neighbors, giving some additional stability against column buckling.

Clips represent the famous eagle sculptures perched on the upper part of the tower

I'm looking at this next to a clean shot of the real thing, and from a distance, they're almost identical. Getting so much true-to-life detail into this relatively small package is quite amazing.

Saw this in BrickJournal magazine. It has to be one of the finest Lego constructions I've ever seen. This should be an official Lego Architecture release someday. Kudos.

I'm starting to build my own chrystler building, inspired by your article in brick journal, and I can't help but copy your techniques. I'm trying to keep it limited to only copying your scale and the use of vents for windows, which is ingenious by the way!

Very good indeed, I hope to make something similar myself in the near future. Although id have to make it on creator and buy the parts on-line, I have no-where near the amount of light light greys needed ;] H§
