About this creation
I have long thougt about building a forklift, but it should also have a practical use. So I decided to also build then a huge truck with trailer, to show the forklifts capacities. I started building, but then both MOCs became beautiful on their own, so I decided to present also the truck. I have invested a long time in building the front of the cabin, and also added PF lights. On the photo up here, you see the front looks of the cabin. Watch the video for more details, please comment when it was nice.
The battery box is located in the back of the cabin. The truck houses one IR reciever, for driving and steering. The cabin doors can be opened.
I added side boards, to prevent losing cargo while driving. But for loading, you don't wish side boards to be there. Therefore, I made the side boards turn, by a PF m-motor below the cargo level. The side boards can be opened via a manual PF switch, located low in the drivers cabin.
The trailer had 3 axles, to make it fit for heavy loads. The truck has an important towing function here: many power has to be transferred to the ground. Therefore I added also 3 axles on the truck, with 2 driven axles and double rears wheels. This was sometimes a bit difficult in sharp bends, therefore I added differentials.
The drive system. First the speed is geared down 3x (black gear), then the power is transferred via rigid 24t gears. It has never slipped. The power of the truck itself was high.
The truck looked quite good. I added details like PF front lights and mirrors.
The truck is quite simple: just the only function was: towing. So I added a turntable as the 5 wheel, and a PF extension cable as plug for the m-motor in the trailer.
The forklift. It has a two-section mast and an all-terrain look because of the wide front wheels. The front wheels are driven, the rear wheels are steering. The whole forklift is IR RC. The mast extends and lifts simultaneously. Watch the video to see it working. Also mast tilting is included, via a mLA under the drivers seat. For this functions, I needed two IR recievers. The battery box was located as top part of the bonnet, it is hard to see that. It lifted realy heavy loads easily, mainly because of the rigid type of mast I built and because the battery box is located above the rear axle, to keep weight in the back.
The two-section mast lifts it really high: two times its own (unextended) height. This height is reached with a special shifting system, a bit like the 8416s system.
I used wheels as load, because they are relatively heavy compared to their volume. This was a good test for my forklift.
The combination of the two MOCs: the forklift puts the load on the trailer.
The mast can tilt in a large range, so you can get situations like this.
Detail of the bonnet: you see that the battery box is 'integrated' in the design.
The steering lock had to be very good, so some gears (two) were popping out and I placed them outside.
I added top lights to the cabin (PF LED). This added a lot to the model.
The cabin: I added handles, a steer and a seat. So rather detailed.
The front side of the forklift: you see that it is very rigid to lift heavy loads.
The handle. It drives via a bar-sytem a switch in the lower part of the cabin (near the drivers feet). This switch is connected to the plug near the 5th wheel, the turntable. It controls in this case the side boards, they are working well. When I would have connected a dump truck to it, it could power the M-motor for the bucket-LAs.
The driving system of the forklift. You see that is is being driven really fast, but the XL motor had enough power for it.
