As a complete change from large scale Technic trucks I decided to build a castle. Overall it's 166x100 studs, and it took 4 months to build, and countless Bricklink orders.
My main remit for the build was playability, to that effect all the rooms in the castle have opening wall panels, and some have lift off roofs also. All the other buildings, the tavern, mill, Squires house and blacksmiths are built in a modular style with removable upper floors and roofs. All rooms are fully fitted out with furniture and minifigs.
I make no secret of the fact that there's no amazing new techniques to be found here, minimal SNOT and no incredible new parts usage. Also I make no secret of the fact that I have shamelessly stolen many detail ideas from others who's work I've found on Flickr, Brickshelf, Eurobricks and of course MOCpages.
The castle on it's own was awesome but having all the surrounding area done with the houses (and all the little details) as well just made the whole thing SWEET! Awesome work and thanks for sharing! ~ Chris.
Quoting Medieval Guy
Nice castle, especially for a first try! The mottling on the castle walls is good, and I like your houses. I can tell that you read Derfel Cadarn's guide, and put it to good use.
Funnily enough the main castle was all but finished before DCs guide, but it certainly gave me some ideas regarding landscaping, foliage and water. There's a lot of great stuff out there, it would be virtually impossible not to be copying someone else's ideas anyway.
