High tech, low life
An entry for a cyberpunk contest
About this creation
Yes, it's true. Stu actually built something, photographed it and posted it by jingo!

I'll add some proper discriptive another time, but this is a cyberpunk vignette for the 'High tech, low life' contest on the Flickr Lego contest network group. It's also the first thing i've bothered photographing since I built with the Dark Knight himself, Dave Kaleta, at Christmas (Sorry Dave, i've still not posted the cannon - pretty shabby of me mate). I've done some builds, abandoned more unfinished for one reason or another and generally lost my mojo. Here's me starting to get it back. Time to get prolific, or at least regular with my builds.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. It came second to a rather nice 3-tier build in the end, but prizes ahoy! Also, building again is probably the best end result, so I win anyway. Yay me!

I sympathise with your Lego building block, I've been pretty unproductive this calendar year what with new work responsibilities and growing family. Still, this is well worth the wait! For my money the colour scheme, lighting and eclectic mix of elements all evokes the cyberpunk feel really well. Hope you do well in the contest!

Wow! Out of left field this one. Very Cyber Punk in that whacky Japanese way we all have come to...endure, lmao. Nah, wicked cool build, I love those Asian pattern screens, they are so good to look at, and the back lighting on them was a sweet touch. Good to see you posting again StU!

Quoting Henrik Hoexbroe Excllent. Where can that joker-head be had from┐?
This http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=4527-1 Surprised some people think it's unusable - i'm already wondering what to do next with it. Only pain is the connection - technic ball/ socket joint is not the most user friendly. Thanks for the comment!

Quoting Mr. Xenomurphy Okay, I was wrong. But hey, that gave me another chance to write a comment.
That's OK Thor, i'm loving seeing comments on something I posted! Time to build anew and get some more. Right after I fix my tent poles (true story).

This is fantastic! It's so Tokyo red light district circa 2099-ish. Great parts usage, and design elements. So many things pop and grab your attention. Nice way to ease back into moc'n. Me thinks your mojo is doin its thing. Great build.~cheers

Quoting Leda Kat =^..^= I can't figure out how you built that sand blue wall: http://www.mocpages.com/image_zoom.php?mocid=321448&id=/user_images/25687/13358262608 is this a new part I'm not aware of are you just insanely clever?
Quite apart from the fact i'm insanely clever, it's actually just this brick http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=4216 staggered. As Dave mentioned, they are from the pet shop. Adds some nice texture. I really loathe doing scenery at times because I want to make it not be 'big grey wall syndrome', it's probably why I like doing smaller builds. Thanks for the kind words mate!

Quoting Dennis Price I love it all (What's that going on in the shop window -- too awesome!), but I'm seriously digging that police vehicle. I may have to have a go at reverse engineering that baby for a comic project I've got in mind. If I do, I'll post the cruiser here for all to see. If it turns out cruddy, this post never happened.
It's still in one piece at home Dennis, i'll take some photos and send you an e-mail of the disassembly. Glad you like it.

A brilliant comeback, Stu. I designed a lot of cyberpunk stuff during the 90s for our RP group and also did a lot of research. You captured the Akira/Bladerunner feeling perfectly and I just had lots of fun exploring all the fantastic details in your MOC. This is bringing back good memories - thank you, pal. Are you sure you are no relative of Syd Mead? ----- Leda, I think it is a combination of 1 x 2 plates and 1 x 2 modified plates with 1 stud, but that's just a wild guess.

Love it! Wicked style and that lit up window looks fantastic. Needs some black light on this baby to light up the neon around the windows. Great use of parts here and put together with real zing. Great to have you back and building buddy. Very nice! The light effects and characters fit my idea of cyberpunk perfectly. And agreed with those below, the Joker head use is genius.

Stuart, I really like the mix of texture and color that you've created; the dark bley, black and trans green are a good setting in which to infuse the more bright elements you've chosen to highlight. Also, good use of the pet shop sand blue bricks. ~Dave
