About this creation
( motivational music for this project)

Well, the Y8 Mining Ship has not really been getting any progress. Kinda put me in the dark ages in my building. So I am putting that on hold and moving forward with a project I started about two years ago, the Minmatar rookie ship from EVE Online... the Reaper.

When I first started, I just built the engines. Which was basically me designing one engine and then copying the end for the other two engines. But after where I am at now, I might have to redesign them slightly bigger (or taller).

While on my 2010 deployment, I had started up again to build the rest of the ship. I had just got past building the technic half (on the starboard side) and the cabin/cockpit before my mind began to wander away from the project.

I have now started to get back into it. So far, I have put more detail into the solor panel wings, built the cargo bay, and also put more work into the cabin section. I also added the cockpit window. I might get around to redesigning the cockpit to fit the pod, but for now it will be remain as a non-capsuleer vessel.

And yes, that is a pod there... don't have the parts to paint it green, so grey will do. It can fit a guy in it. I'll show it in more detail in the near future.

Sometime in the far future, when I have the room for it, I plan on getting into a bricklink rampage in hopes of building this in real life.

05MAY12- For now, here are some teaser pictures of the project, enjoy.

06MAY12- More detail for the cockpit. Along with some antenne detail.

06MAY12- Getting into it alot today. Turned up some Aria and some DubStep and got into the mood. Here you can see I started plating it up. I might end up making it studless afterwards.

08MAY12- Finally decided how to have it's landing gear. May or not be changed, but I like em. They even have suspension for landing on uneven terrain. I guess a future idea is to eventually have all suspension connected by gears so a motor can control them all at the same time with a push of a button. That would be cool.

11MAY12- Went to working on other things such as the bottom and the boarding ramp... will be trying to make it as studless as possible as well. It's been a long day... not even over yet... but I'll get to posting a final picture of the bottom of the port side of the ship when I finish :)

12MAY12- More detailing on the aft and the pilot's cabin... you can see that I started on making the engine there more studless and giving it some better detail.

13MAY12- Finished the first engine... also made it a tad taller then it was before. I also finished the top sail... had to redo it a few times to get it the right size. But the top is still removable. As for if the top falls off everytime I would make a turn... I would not know yet lol. I updated the main picture as you can see too. Funny how it has gotten so far... and yet I am still about halfway done still. I have a feeling the other half will come together faster then the portside as I don't have to worry about an interior for it.

18MAY12- New update! Both halfs of the ship are now connected... it's amazing what designs you can come up with when in the right mood. The issue of how heavy the ship may be (if it were made in real life) and how strong the connection would have to be had been bothering me for the past days. But now I think I have figured out a good but crazy design that I have no clue how I thought up in the first place.

Now with that out of the way I can worry about the other landing gear I need to add, along with finishing and connecting the last two engines. Then I'll worry about the other panel wings that need installing.

19MAY12- A day late in posting these, but here I have attached the last two engines and began to put some detail in them. They still need streghtened as they are only attached in the front.

Also, you can see how the wings will be folding up for landing.

20MAY12- Wow... I have been updating alot. But I think that is what has been keeping me going as well. Anyways, The next wing has been added, alot with more plating. Tweaked the detailing on the last two engines as well.

20MAY12- I have been plating up the bottom now. Here you can see I flipped the whole ship to make building easier. The hull there also has other thigs within that look like ship electronics hardware. Another that looks like a fuel contianer. Anyways, it is not empty inside.

I also put more work into the engine support. Now the engines "rest" on 1x1 dark grey cheese wedge pieces that are on the sides. I also used other methods.

20MAY12- I typed up a nice update but the internet ate it... so it will be short and sweet. The Reaper is just about done. Got more pictures on the flickr acount. I'll just be tweaking some things later and adding a kitchen and it will be officially complete. I also want to make a second cockpit design that can hold a capsule, like from the game. I might end up designing that in the far future.

03SEP12- Some small tweaks. With Guindel's drones from Cuusoo, and some modifications to the wings, I have made a drone bay for the Reaper. I also went and made some 150mm light autocannons for it. With the dronebay, it takes off one place for the guns, but it still has 3 turrets left.

I will also be doing more pictures on my flickr account. Though I will still update here as well.

Ahh, before I forget. Here is a low detail picture of what a Reaper is for those who don't know. I say low detail as there are no real shadows on it and everything looks simple. This one has the older gun turret setup... which mine can be configured to have.

Quoting David Alexander Smith Ambitious asymmetry.
Thank you... it is going to become a monster when I gather all the pieces. Already started bricklinking and am waiting on the first shipments to arrive.

Quoting David Roberts An impressive and detailed build. LDD is brilliant for a ship like this, as there's no way you could pick up and turn it round in real Lego. Yours looks very faithful to the picture that you posted the link to too.
Hehe... I think that sounded like a challenge :p. I think it is doable IRL, I just put up the list of legos I would need on bricklink.com 2 weekends ago, and I recieved like 1000 email notifications saying the parts were in stock hahaha! Thank you very much! This is maybe the biggest on LDD which I am the most proud of.

Quoting Dave Benson So many details...impressive!
Thank you! Heh, with all that detail, I had to cut the ship up into 4 sections so my computer can save the instructions and part count. Just last week finished all that... now to get a bigger place to live in before I go crazy on my first Bricklink spree :p

Quoting Jesse Long I like the engine design. It's a very cool one and it's also one of the best engine designs that I've ever seen in a LEGO space craft of ANY size!
Thank you! Lol surprisenly enough, when I finished just the engines (back when you were able to buy bricks from LDD), I did a price check on them. The engines and their detail alone was about $190 >.<
