Casey Jones, an American Folk Hero.
About this creation
My next Locomotive, The Illinois Central RR engine No.382, made famous by Casey Jones and his famous wreck on April 30, 1900.
This is based on my Rivarossi HO scale model of 382. My model has a light grey...gray...(whichever you want) boiler front while all others of the same model I've seen have an all black boiler. But I don't have any round 4x4 plates in black so light grey will do.
Enjoy.

The tender contains everything but the motor. My decals didn't come out how I wished they would. But it was my first attempt at decals so don't hate me.

This decal I admit looks horrible, and is over sized. The flash on my camera doesn't like printer paper.

Casey Jones in the cab.

A funny idea for the engineer, don't ya think?
And the tender.

Unfortunately there is no way to separate the loco from the tender as the wire from the motor goes to the receiver in the tender.

And the battery.
Back to the engine you will see...

the domes on top with the number decal,

and the front of the boiler from the side,

and a picture of the front..from the front, sorta.
Well, I tried. Please leave any comments, suggestions, or whatever you want to say.

hmm but a PF motor means i will have give up cab detail which is something i like to go to town on are 9V motors any good?
Compared to a PF train motor....no...But the Locos I usually build are referenced mostly from a model train and many of my model trains are older ones with motors in the cabs. So Id rather fill an empty area with something. |

can you give me some tips on motorising?
Yes I can. Im assuming as you are younger than me that you will be looking into PF. So either use PF motors with gearing to most if not all driving wheels or use a PF train motor and put the wheels on that and build around it. Either way commit to a design and have it all planed out. With my new J1 Hudson I started with Lego wheels and went to BBB XL wheels So luckily I left enough spacing to fit them, BUT I had to change some designs of the boiler to get them to not hit anything. Really, Just try different ideas. For Me personally, I will power the Drivers only. |

Fantastic locomotive. I thought it looked familiar, I was going to comment how it resembled Casey's engine. lol. I like the engineer leaning out the window. Have you considered using a PF train motor and switching the standard wheels with drivers? That way you can fit more details in the cab.
Actually I was thinking of doing that! But UGHHH I don't feel like making another order, and then there is the chance I completely screw it up and I can never get it back to the way I had it. So yea. But the model was made by copying a Rivarossi Model Train. The motor was in the cab as well. So I have no cab to copy. That's why there is no cab. And although it uses a PF motor, it doesn't have any problems navigating turns or anything even with the 3 cars I built for it. |
