To my knowledge, the first every foray into the fascinating world of BioniDuplo.
About this creation
This was build for the BCBS round one: “Useless” Parts. A few of the more difficult-to-use parts this uses are:
~Three blue Duplo 2 x 2 bricks: Useless because they’re Duplo and have no Bionicle-compatible connection points. Also obnoxiously large.
~ Duplo Crane Cabin 4 x 4 x 2 with Eyes (Lofty): Firstly, it’s a Duplo piece. Secondly, it’s an awkwardly shaped and awkwardly large Duplo piece with only a few Duplo studs on the top for connections. Thirdly, it has printed eyes, which IMO are the worst characteristic, although I think I used them pretty well here.
~Duplo Crane Jaws: More Duplo.
Although I consider them relatively useful, it’s worth noting that I also used three blue Mata bodies and one black Inika body.
Now, on to the MOC. The torso expands, by the way.

I had a tough time making this function work, but in the end it’s pretty strong and effective.

Oh boy, inside the crane cabin. You’d be surprised how hard it is to fill in that rigid box, it’s like building a ship in a bottle.

I’m so proud of these greebles!

Sorry about the blurry pic…

By the way, his upper body turns on the turntable. Yay for playability!

Look! LoftBot is helping Bob build a skyscraper!

Bye!

So, in case you haven’t caught on yet, this is based on some old Bob the Builder Duplo parts. The blue crane, whose parts are used in this, was named Lofty. I may be the Lego Obsessionist, but for a while when I was younger by obsessions were co-held by Bob and his merry crew of mechanical marvels. Ah, good memories, I love the Lego Bob the Builder sets.
I hope you liked it; it was definitely a fun build. C&C much appreciated!

Yes, but in a modern sense, bionicles tend to have the 'bionicle' armor more on the outside. I see where you're coming from though, and I suppose I'm a bit biased because I wasn't very active in getting bionicles until the inika. |

Duplo bricks are the Gods of useless parts :P Good thinking. AWESOME entry, totally different idea behind this MOC than most bio-builds. I can see the BTB resemblance ;) |

The only rule is that it be not more than half System. IMHO this Bio-MOC is perfectly qualified. No issues with the moderator ~Das Greebler |

Great, but honestly I think it's too technic to be called bionicle. Anyway, good luck!
By parts count, yes, it is mostly Technic. However, the same could be said of most actual Bionicle sets and 99% of fan creations. The style in which it was built and the "Action Figure" type character clearly define it as bionicle, though, beyond using lots of molds origninaly produced for Bionicle. If the Bionicle-ness still isn't clear, just look at the early Rahi sets. Their builds were almost exclusively molds made pre-Bionicle for the Technic theme, but they were clearly Bionicle figures. |
