These are the various iterations of the Legacy. Due to its large size I have had to build this with a myriad of modular sections.
About this creation
The Legacy - System Explorer 1 has been a dream of mine for about 10 years. I have made many changes to the design over the past decade.
It is a modular design allowing for upgrades in technology to be easily installed. I have tried to use existing technology in its design.
The Engines are Vasmir engines currently in prototype by Ad Astra in Houston
The eventual powerplant (in design) will be based off the GT-MHR a helium cooled fission reactor designed by General Atomics in Los Angeles (the creators of the Predator UAV)
While this model is currently a work of fiction, I have spent a lot of time considering what it would take to launch and assemble all of these pieces.
When it is completed in LDD, I hope to buy it from Lego but it probably will be expensive, as even unfinished the model exceeds 4,000 pieces.
I will be posting more pictures soon, thanks for looking :-)
Edit*
I havent updated this in awhile, so here goes.
I finally got the Living sections attached to the engineering section through the use of some large ship sections. The yellow glass panels are going to be used as the cover for some side mounted greenhouses.
I guess I should note that the scale I am using is one Astronaut in a full spacesuit occupies the area of one stud. In this manner I could use the small windows in some pieces as rather large airlock sections.
