Discus Thrower Statue
OOYCZ Entry for Round 2
About this creation
For the Out of Your Comfort Zone" Contest

Paired against the great Brody Allen, was a great and daunting task. The category I got, Sculpture, was neither as welcome. I have never done too much sculpturing with Lego, so I was off to a bad start. I looked in our encyclapeadia (excuse the bad spelling) for ideas, and found this statue, which I decided to rplicate.

And I WIP shot :)

I hope you enjoyed!

Good luck, Brody!

God bless you all!

Good job! The upper boy looks great! The lower half is a little plain though (maybe you could have made one of the legs a stud forward than the other).

Timmy, we need to talk about the junior mocathon.

Score = 3. Not bad for your first try at LEGO sculpting. I can clearly see this is a purist build. Not sure what Nate was talking about. It's a little blocky and some sections get thin and other sections get a bit thick. The key to sculpture is to try to keep an thickness to scale throughout the whole piece even if it compromises the look a little. The face is a bit odd took, looks like he got hit in the face with a bat - no offense. :) Decent try on your first go of it. Looks like you have some natural skill.

Quoting The Timinater ! actually not that great at all :( I was a bit dissapointed :( it was too slow, and showed just about nothing. 1 backflip, and 1 twist on a pole... lame, really :(
Eh, it's hard stuff man, if you think its so easy, I challenge you to do a better parkour stop motion. This is a response to your somewhat offensive comment, thought you were cooler than that =/

And another thing, I haven't even gotten set up yet. All I have is 4 base plates, my camera, a cup of bricks, and a few minifigures

It appears my previous comment is in moderation. I shall now say it in less offensive terms. A stop motion is very hard to make, so please do not insult mine, especially considering that I made it in like than 10 hours on my grandparents floor with only a cup of LEGO's. If you think you can do better, show me, flips are hard to do with stop motion. And as for this moc, the face and pecks need touched up. A lot. But the rest is okay.

Quoting Cody G Neat build, if a little messy. Try to clean it up a bit to get a more sculpted look.
thanks! yeah, I didn't get time to make it look more realistic. That'll probably be my downfall :3

Quoting Brody Allen Tim, this is really, really good. I was feeling pretty confident until you posted. The good thing is that I totally wouldn't feel bad losing to this entry. You are truly showing your diversity and I think you are only scratching the surface of your potential. What impresses me is the detail you get out of so few bricks. I truly am more impressed by MOCs like these were you are able to squeeze so much detail and technique into a small build then large scale unlimited brick inventory builds. I love the way you did the twisting torso and the overal accuracy of the shape. Well done and good luck!
cheers, man! best of luck!
