Barney the Barn Owl
About this creation
Here is the latest addition to my Lego Bird Project.

Barney the Barn owl.

Barney has been the most challenging build so far just because of the size of him. He is as close as I could get him to life size. The transition between the head and the body was the ardes part and I'm still not 100% happy with it as when you turn his head there are gaps in certain places.

I used minifig sauce pans for his eyes :-)

I built him a very simple perch and a teeny weeny field mouse as his prey, the mouse is just a quick last minute build so it's not my best work but I think it's quite cute.

I'm going to sound like a broken record for the next few months until I get the 10,000 supporters needed for LEGO to consider turning my birds into official sets, so apologies if I go on a bit but I'm determined to get to 10,000 :-)

So if you like Barney and the rest of my birds and would like to own your favourite/s one day please follow this link LEGO Bird Project And take a couple of minutes to register and support the LEGO Bird Project.

Many thanks!

Tom

Quoting Hans Dendauw NPD Man, I had no idea that I was sooo far behind on your stuff! I'll just have to hit a handful of my faves and this is one of the tops. You manage so much character in the face that the rest becomes almost irrelevant. Beautiful job.~H
Haha yeah I think the body is quite irrellevant, it looks too small and awkward now I look at it and I know I could do a better job of it now. Thanks Hans (°v°)

Quoting Stuart Delahay I think this has to be my fave of your bird sculptures - i've been lucky enough to see a couple in the wild and some more up close at falconry displays and for me that face is just superbly done. I love the mouse too, far cuter than a regurgitated pellet!
I'm glad you like him Stuart, definately cuter than a pellet lol

Quoting John Wall This is amazing! the only thing I'm not sure about is how straight and rectangular the body is.If you made the body as lifelike and rounded as the head, I would mistake it for a real one!
Thanks John, I agree the body could do with a bit of work especially after seeing a real one the other day, I will at some point improve on him :-)

Ooh thanks George! I'll have to get another 8000 odd people to support first, I think it's going to take some time. It's really slowed down now :-( The good news is the birds are going to be featured in a couple of magazines soon. And I have started building a new series of birds. Hopefully they will have the same impact as the British series, if not more. Thanks for telling me GG!

Hi! I wouldn't worry about what your friends think, if you enjoy it then carry on building. I'm 34 and there are a lot of older Lego builders than mr so it's not for babies it's for all ages. Besides it's being productive with your time and you get a great sense of achievement you don't get when playing computers games for example. There are a lot of people on mocpages that think you are building great things (me included) so please carry on and most importantly enjoy it :-) looking forward to seeing the Beemer!
