Ralph McQuarrie's BASESHIP CONCEPT
WELCOME
About this creation

Welcome to my first tribute to a genius, Ralph McQuarrie. Without his imagery this build would not have been constructed. With all the challenges in building a round looking Baseship with strait lines this for me is one amazing looking builds.

I feel this is a triumph. It is able to hold its own weight on the tiny base. As you may see it on a stand it can stand alone.

I like this build because it is unusual in design and concept. There is very little reference material available for this ship just the basic shape. The detail is applied for a dramatic effect. If you have a look at the original 1978 Battlestar Galactica series. The first movie Saga of star worlds when Apollo and Zac go on patrol and see a Cylon tanker the scan through their onboard war book display and this beauty is unveiled for the first time.

Sadly it never got developed as a model until now. Wait before I say that I should say I have not found any physical models on the internet.

ELEMENT COUNT 16387 Is that all !!!
Definitely thought it used more elements... OH WELL.

WEIGHT 36.69Lbs or 16.64KG

dimensions 1100mm dia x 1030mm high

This Baseship has 3 landing bays on the top of the main hull.

I used dark blue as a contrasting break from the boring, dark green is used for the landing bay decks and dark red I felt it needed to link it to Battlestar Galactica, the Cylon red eye for an added effect. Allowing the imagination to run free, The red line runs around the circumference of the circular disc. This is used as a scanner to seek out the inferior human pests.

The rest is mono chromed in light bluish grey, light grey, dark bluish grey and dark grey. Combined is what you see in the final result.

JUST FOR EVERYONE WHO LIKE TO SEE HOW THE CREATION WAS BUILT

THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO LOOK THROUGH THE IMAGES.

Quoting Parrington Levens - you may be interested, or already know, but I spotted this design in the original series, it was shown in green lines on the computer console of one of the Vipers as it approached its space. I instantly recognised the difference to the norm because of your Moc!
Excellent.... Mr Parrington .... The Warbook was a handy item with the vipers. You also see other designs that will astound especially for the time. Great spotting. Keep up the great work. Cheers.

Quoting Tim C Goodness gracious, Garry. This is one of the most impressive ships, no, MOCs in general that I have seen. Everything about it is so clean and well-planned. The landing bays are brilliant. Of course, the round shape and the way you were able to fill all of the resulting gaps marks you in my mind as one of the best builders on this site, or anywhere. I really like all the peaks in the center at the top of the build, but I can't put a finger on my favorite part. It is all just stunning. Well done!
WOWSERS Tim This is a very nice comment. I am humbled by your kind words. I like what I do and try my best to do it. The final results are a feat in its self. If I don't like what I see I will change it till I am happy. Cheers.

Thank you LukeClarenceVan for your comment. I did use it as a spinning top before I dismantled it. Yes it is sad that the man behind this art passed away.. Always sad but we can remember him in our own way. There are three more concepts of his to build as my passing tribute to him. Cheers.

I like the in progress pictures where shape and size is taking to the next level. Btw do You keep Your models forever or do You take them a part? Ever went to a show with them? Do You use bricklink for purchasing parts? Best LEGO greetings from Denmark, Soren:-)
Thank you Soren for your comment. Yes I am insane, I have a lego padded room to retire to. HAHA....I dismantle each build as there is not enough space here and it is way too costly to keep replacing all the elements used.... I would like to display them but I rip them apart soon after starting the next creation. Some of the small builds I have kept. Keep up your impressive builds too.

Thank you Chris for your comment. I am now in the process in dismantling it and certainly did not seem to use as many elements in its construction. Cheers.

Goodness gracious, Garry. Well done!

Wow, it's a pity that Mr. McQuarrie's not around to see this. Truly a marvel of LEGO, and I can't believe how quickly you build such massive and intricate creations! The shaping and texturing is excellent, you could use it as a spinning top. ;) Great work!

You are close to be insane if it's not too late for that:-) Just kidding, this is really something special and once again a outstanding build from You. I like the in progress pictures where shape and size is taking to the next level. Btw do You keep Your models forever or do You take them a part? Ever went to a show with them? Do You use bricklink for purchasing parts? Best LEGO greetings from Denmark, Soren:-)

Not sure whether or not to be more in awe of your immense creation, or your EPIC hobby set-up. Cheers on BOTH though. Clearly, I need to get organized' =P Now, why don't movie-makers worldwide just pay attention to us MOCers? Even at current prices, our MOC-ups look as good as any greebled masterpiece you see in film, and could cost far less! =)
