GAIA - HMS 'Fury'
Rated 5 out of 5 Change your rating   Zoom in  Zoom in
A true in-line-of-battle-ship, the HMS 'Fury' sacrifices all but a single escort of fighters for outrageous amounts of armour and heavy weaponry.
About this creation

Usually found at the fore-front of an engagement, the Fury's role is to support the fleet's advanced fighters with its array of heavy cannons and meters thick steel hide.

Behind 4th wall

To my good friends at GAIA, this one's for you guys.
225 studs long, I really struggled to take photos on this!
I hope these turned out O.K.

Wow bud I think this is your best design yet in the battle class ships!!! Excellent work! I really enjoyed the black and white photo's of the Fury. Hey don't know if you have heard of my CUUSOO Project of the Tron Light Cycle but I was hoping you could support the project and maybe pass the word as well. Here is a Link to the site http://lego.cuusoo.com/ideas/view/15895 . It is a newer site in its BETA VERSION still but the whole site is getting alot of good support. You might want to check it out yourself and try to get your GAIA theme going as well on there. Just a thought. Just spreading the word. Later...

Quoting Mihe Stonee great ship you have designed here! the pick with the haze is amazing! - how did you do that? Is it real or computeranimated?
Cheers Mihe, yes I used a bunch of gradients and played around with the opacity, also some other tricks under it with the wavy background you see and of course a dim lens flare in the background. It worked O.K as the photo itself was very surreal compared to the rest and it just screamed fog to me.

Hehe, I know the youngsters won't get that one but that wisecrack is for us old-timers! 225 studs long eh. You know we both desperately need some fine-feminine attention in our sorry little lives! Well at least you're building something. All I seem to do these days is spend hour after hour sorting and categorizing my parts to make some room in my humble abode!
Hahhaa, mate I had a three day sorting session myself a couple weeks ago. It had got to the point I couldn't build anything cos everything was SO messed up. But mate, you gotta build yourself out of the rut! Did you see Aidan's latest fighter, it just made me want to try a new fighter - it's fantastic. Yeh I hear you on the femme side of things, grr, gonna have to give that some attention sometime, but then I'll never have time to build! hahaha. Later dude...

Quoting Cody G I would think that front-line ships would be a bit thicker, but I suppose this baby can just cut through enemy defenses with its minimal cross-section. Maybe you could try throwing some side gun batteries on this, like a pirate ship. I think it would look pretty sweet. :)
Cheers Cody, yeh, me thinks the next pure Battleship will go for a truer 1 to 6 ratio. It will look crazy, but I'll have to build it a different scale. I like side guns too, but I did that with the Southern Cross, I wanted this one to be more along the Dreadnought theory of just sticking to main guns. Pre Deradnoughts were covered with side guns then the British revolutionised the BAttleship to the point that all other ships were made obsolete. Funny that Battleships soon found themselves almost obsolete with the advent of carriers. But in a massive apocalyptic battle, I imagine good ole Battleships still have their place. Let's face it, if both sides have equal air power, and similar submarines and destroyers, it will be Battleships once again that tip the balance of power. Atleast, that's how I imagine the GAIA storyline to be, lol... Cheers again Cody.

Quoting ariklego ...The Director! Well, aside from a handful of issues I've had with nearly every GAIA ship, this is truly incredible. I'll got those "issues" over with real quick here. They mainly revolve around this: What in the galaxy is that boat doing in space? The general shaping, the bow for example, doesn't at all look like it's intended for space. And what about placing weapons on the underside? I doubt your enemies are honorable enough not to send a couple squadrons of bombers to hit that weak point. Oh, and how is that flag on the bridge billowing in a vacuum? :P Other than those issues, it's an absolutely fantastic ship, and way beyond my own building skill.
Thankyou kindly, and thankyou for giving me a golden opportunity to explain. Let's face it, Star Trek, BSG, Andromeda, and the like, are all just as unrealistic. False gravity seems to be taken for granted and oh will that be the greatest achievement ever if discovered. Imagine, if we could just walk around on spaceships that weren't rotating, it would mean we have cheated physics. Gravity is created by mass as far as we know, or acceleration. If we had Star Trek/BSG like gravity generators, then why not be able apply the same tech to say, propulsion? We should be able to build ship like craft that can land at sea for ease of transferring equipment and personnel, and then levitate off to space again for space travel. I see the long slim noses as necessary to break through atmosphere. Given high velocity shells in space would deliver more kinetic energy in damage than would say a laser ray, and that thick steel armour plates sandwiching concrete and lead would make for a good anti-rad, space dust, skin, why not use battleships in space :) Oh and as for the underside, I envisage fleets flying in a two tiered formation, each showing its respective hull to each other. And of course fighters flying far and wide in perimeters around. I hope this helps explain some of the whacky ideas GAIA likes to use. It is a shameless far fetched fantasy/scifi theme. We use Dyson Spheres for energy, hahaha, like that's possible... Once again. thanks for looking and giving me the chance to explain, cheers :)

Quoting Senator Chinchilla . Great to see a giant blue SHIP, its a nice change of pace from the usual greys. The cannons are cool, and all the greeblies look greeblie-tastic
Yes the cannons! I pretty much based this ship on the US Wisconsin, a beautiful battleship from WW2. It had three main three gun turrets two in fro two aft. Where I part from Star Blazers and alot of sci-fi, is that I just don't see why weapons need to be fandangles lasers etc, cos can just imagine what a high velocity say 36 inch shell is going to do to an enemy space ship travelling at tens of thousands of kilometers an hour? OUCH!!! And you can have all the forceshield in the world but if you cop a sustained barrage of such shells, your shields ain't gonna hold up long! Hahaha, anyway, I digress, thanks alot:)

Quoting CEO Luiz Camargo Ey mate... that's a long thing you got there... I refer to the ship, man... Outstanding vessel my friend, I love the iconic GAIA red hull. I can truly see a Battleship Yamato inspiration, which is awesome if it's the case. The only thing that need more attention are the thrusters, seems too small to move such a ship through the stars. Nothing huge of course, but definetely bigger (Although, considering the Classic Space inspiration and the ship sleekness, the small thrusters don't look out of place). I'd like to build something for GAIA someday, maybe LDD due to lack of parts (colors mostly). Long live to GAIA!

Quoting Sir Balamorgineas The ridiculous length actually looks pretty good with the iconic battleship command station up top. Kind of familiar yet still surreal. Great job on a massive ship.
Cheers mate, yes, I kind of agree. The real Battleships had a ratio of beam to length of about 1 to 6, which I have occasionally stuck to with ships like the Aris. I might be making a return to that scale next time. Thanx again :)

Quoting Original Channel of MOCpages (Caleb) Instead of pasting this into a space background and making it look weird, why not just make this a normal sea ship with a sea background? It'd look cooler in my opinion =P
I thought of that, that's kind of what the foggy one is meant to imply. I did it once on the Aris so just never really thought to do it again, but yeh, this one kind of would look cool in the sea, though it should need to be wider to be sea faring; hence it's a space ship ;) Cheers... http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/155625

Quoting Scott Allen Crazy. I thought I was going to see a normal ship. No no, it's a space ship! Cool CS colors and I like everything except the thrusters, they look tacked on and totally out of place with the rest of this behemoth. Great micro build at a length most use for full sized models. ~cheers
hehe, cheers Scott, yeh, I never really like putting thrusters on these cos I don't like over sizing them. I always find it weird to build a thruster that looks like it would use all available fuel in five seconds of burn, but then when I go and use smaller thrusters, they look as you say, tacked on. Sure I have handled thrusters better on other ships, but this one looked so much like a ship, I just didn't have the heart to do anything that would detract from the ship shape. Maybe I should just actually build a ship one of these days, lol. Cheers :)

Quoting Stuart Lucas I think this the prettiest of your microscale GAIA ships to date, besides being almost comically long in proportion to its width! You must have a lot of shelf space.... I particularly like the detailing of the main cannon turrets, and the sloped technic bricks (launch tubes?) in the upper hull. And great work with the photo editing too, this was a really challenging model to present.
Cheers Stu, yeh, I'd have liked to make this 24 wide instead of 14 wide, but just don't have the parts! What I have learned from this one, (though I do love the sleek shape of it which is better suited for the supposed ability it has to fly through an atmosphere) is to perhaps try and build at 150 studs long. It will be SO much easier to photograph, and I'll be able to build it that bit wider. Cheers dude:)
