Yellow Podracer
Possibly the coolest part of the whole Star Wars series was the Episode I pod race. Here's my take on the podracer.
About this creation
Yes, I lied. I said in my last MOC that I wouldn't be posting till the fall so I could finish sorting my entire collection, but I couldn't resist. Sorting stinks, man! I'm probably just going to leave what's left of the unsorted parts to rot and get on with building again (but not till the fall. I know I said this last time, but now it's a 100% guarantee, because I'll be away for pretty much the whole summer).
So anyway, I saw this , was inspired, and had to make my own.

Here we have a straightforward shot of those beefy, ridiculous engines. I'm no aerodynamicist or engineer, so don't tell me that it could never fly (hover?).

The two sides are different colours because I ran out of white car-hood thingies. But it looks great this way, so I'm not complaining. The stand is tan out of homage to the original official podracer sets.

The pod.

Between the two massive vents, there's a single long brick (plus a plate and a tile) bookended by pairs of Bionicle fangs. I'm pretty proud of that bit.

I had to add greebles somewhere.

Ludicrous exhausts.

A pic of the other end of those inner fins.

This is how I made the energy binder. That's actual Lego - it's just an old type of connector that hasn't been used in a long time. I never thought I'd use those pieces, but now I'm glad I didn't throw them away.

The pod from the front. I do like the reiteration of the yellow fins here.

Even the pod itself is powered. QUASI-SCIENTIFIC INTERLUDE: they're used only partially for propulsion, and are mostly just there to keep the pod stably buckled down and wobble-free.

The belly of the beast.

The stand. Basic but effective.

And the pilot waves from the cockpit. But that's not just any minifig...

Yup, I finally have a sigfig. Here I am in full racing garb.

I'll be leaving for the summer in a few days, so farewell, everybody! Criticism is welcome, so fire away!
