Turtle Island
About this creation
Still catching up - this is another GoH moc from April/May. Again, i feel that this creation was less than successful - i persisted in using the black borders, but i really don't think it suits it - i feel that more rambling, organic edges would have been better suited. I also feel that i should have extended the edges of the "shell" down to the waterline, although that would have increased the size of the moc substantially. In the end i just felt that too many compromises were made.... ah well. :/

I do like the idea though - a living island or fossilised megafauna - kind of mythic i guess. I also enjoyed sculpting the face and livening it up with all the greenery. I was also quite pleased with the gap where the head met the shell. :)

Our heroes venture into the dark... :o

Thanks for looking at my moc - i hope you find something to enjoy in it! :)

Thankyou to everyone else who has commented on my build - your kind words are very much appreciated! :) (I am rather surprised actually how popular this build seems to be... when i look at it myself i find it hard to get past it's shortcomings.)

Quoting Eric 'Hawk' Mickle It's always a turtle island, never seems to be any other animal. >Eric
Lol! Idk, i've heard of island creation myths involving snakes, serpents/dragons and giants as well. ;) But i guess turtles are both at home in the sea and on land, so they are the ideal animal symbol for islands. It doesn't hurt that their shells look very island-like too!
Quoting Paul Vermeesch Very sinister. Great work here! It's not easy to bring something inanimate to life, but you've done it very well indeed.
Thanks! That's exactly what i was going for, a sense of foreboding and a sinister watching presence. I'm glad that came across to you! :)

Most times landscapeing makes the MOC, but in this case landscaping is the MOC! I can't get over how great that shell looks, it would have been nice to see the MOC expanded, but it's still amazing the way it is! Great build.
