About this creation
The GR-31, a joint project of Sol Development MFG and Fiji Heavy Industries, was developed as an ultralightweight, highly flexible light fighter. Fully capable of combat operations in both atmosphere and vacuum, the GR-31 is effective based on the surface or on a capital ship.
In order to strip off as much mass as possible, the GR-31 lacks a number of features common to other ships in its class. No armor plating or energy shielding; only a small particle shield to protect the ship from debris during space flight. Perhaps most obvious is the lack of a pressurized cockpit. Pilots are protected only by a transparent titanium windscreen and a magnetic air/radiation screen. The figher comes standard with the CLSS XIb life support subsystem, the most compact full life support system yet in production.
With that weight gone, and much of the hull costructed of lightweight steel-fiber and titanium, the designers were able to equip the GR-31 with an extraordinary amount of power. The ship's aft houses a Fiji Class 5 subfusion reactor - other light fighters typically carry a Class 3. That Class 5 provides enough energy to redline the twin Sol Aetherion 7600 thrusters. The Aetherion line was originally built to motivate assault gunboats and heavy interceptors, but with the development of the GR-31 Sol refined the Aetherion design and made it even smaller with almost no drop in thrust. The Class 5 is also powerful enough to effectively operate the gunboat-sized energy cannon jutting so prominently from under the wing. Astride the gunboat cannon are a pair of antifighter rapidfire energy cannon, as well as an HE atmospheric railgun. Six antigrav impellers provide enough lift that the GR-31's underbelly weapons bay can haul up to 1200 kg of weaponry, sensors, or other cargo.
The sheer flexibility, power, and maneuverabilty of the GR-31 has made it instantly popular with combat operations of every type. Equally adept in atmosphere and above it, the fighter is suited to short-range patrol, assault and interceptor missions, light bombing, fighter combat, and full fleet operations. The power and speed almost always compensate for the utter lack of defenses.

...and with the access hatch open, the reactor's exhaust scrubber, which elminates radiation so the exhaust can be vented into the atmosphere.
Here the antigrav impellers are visible (grey caps), as well as the retracted landing skids (black caps). The weapons bay doors are open, and the revolving rack of 12 half-megaton self guided warheads is clearly visible. Those warheads are used on capital ships during fleet action.
