LABS2012
About this creation
LABS2012... The First LEGO Annual Brick Show is taking place this weekend at Canterbury University, Christchurch, New Zealand.
I've spent the past wee while building my layout for it and after an extremely successful first day of the show with what appears to be every man, woman and child in Christchurch coming to see it, I thought I'd post my moc tonight.
Inspired by the late Heather "Lego Girl" Braaten's dolls houses and dedicated to the children of Christchurch who lost their homes in the February 2011 earthquake, I decided to build a little house for a teddy bear.... then decided the house needed a child's bedroom to be displayed in, it kind of spiralled out of control from there....

Teddy's house opens up...

... Inside is his home. It is a strange scale to work in, because it is scaled for the teddy bear that belongs to the sleepy head collectable minifig.

On the ground floor is the kitchen and the lounge with a spiral staircase up to the 1st floor.

The first floor houses the bathroom and the library.

Bathroom...

Library...

Top floor is Teddy Bear's attic bedroom.

His cosy bed,

and here is Teddy himself!

Back to the child's room, which is also effectively a doll's house also. There is for sure a real influence here from Andy's Room by Pepa Quin, which I saw and admired at Brickworld last year.

I crammed the room full of toys, details and colour. I wanted it to look messy, like a kid had been playing and just up and left the room.

I created a "Can you Find?" list which the kids all day at the show have been having fun finding everything on it hidden throughout the room.

Some things are easy to spot.....

Some a bit more tricky.

One more shot, I like this one because it has a real cosy feel to it:

Awesome first day of the southern most Lego Show in the world. This moc took out third place in the best moc competition that I was unaware even existed and I won a free POTC set which I am very very very very happy to receive!
After the show, I will do a full post of the other exhibits but will give my fellow kiwi mocpages exhibitors the opportunity to get their individual and amazing mocs posted first before I display them to the world.

This is a pretty insane build. First I'm like, "Whoa that's a big room", and then it's, "WOAH THE TEDDY HOUSE HAS AN INTERIOR", and then, "WOAH THERE'S A GARDEN OUTSIDE!!!"...yeah. Great use of all those circular bits and the collectable figs. |

It's just lovely mate, a riot of colour and clever details without ever looking too busy or forced. I didn't realise from the WIP photos we had seen that it had an exterior too! Glad it got some recognition at the show and the the show went well too. Now then, how about a kitchen at the same scale? |

Phenomenal kat! I am in awe... so many amazing details. Your scaling is great. Not only did you pull off the effect of minifigs being "doll" sized, you took it to another level with Teddy's house. (The timing with that movie "Ted" , coincidence?) I can see why this was so popular with the kids, im over 30 and would have been just as excited!. Really fantastic build. Oh and I like your Snow White. TLG has the deal with Disney, they should release a minifig set, not just duplo. ~cheers |

Wow everybody! Thank you all so much. It was a real hoot watching the kids' reactions to it yesterday and I'm looking forward to today. Lots of the kids had to be dragged away by their parents because they were lingering too long! I could almost get an instant idea of what each child was interested in by the things in the room that excited them the most. It was really cool. I'm glad its been so well received as it was an incredibly fun thing to make. |

There was a DOUBLE empty space with the passing of Heather (I am sure you saw my tribute to her) those spaces were first the detail and artistry of her doll houses and a female designer with high design skills. Leda you have taken up the mantle! Please never be insulted if you are compared to her --- as the expression goes --- imitation is the sincerest form of FLATTERY! Your "doll house" within a DOLL HOUSE is wonderful any little girl would love to have this as her real room! or perhaps with the wave a wand become small enough to enjoy it! The details of Teddy's Doll House, to the quilt on the bed, to the toys spilling out of the drawers and toy box are incredible! Your use of the FRIENDS characters (especially SNOW WHITE on the window seat) as well as the COLLECTIBLE Mini-Figures is spectacular! You are a very fine young lady. It was indeed a pleasure seeing this MOC and enjoying the outdoor garden as well! Now I'd love to see you do more rooms!
Love & Peace and God's Blessings! |

Simply gorgeous work. There's so much going on here, I could write several paragraphs about it. The overall build really has that kid's room look to it and the tile work on the furniture looks great. The parts that really stand out to me are, first off that dollhouse. The detail on that is astonishing. I like how the carpeting and rugs turned out, but it's the bedspread, I think, that's my favorite of the whole thing. Well done, and the award is well-deserved. |
