Cinema and City Hotel
US Art Deco cinema -With the City Hotel on the side.
About this creation
I present you two more building for the MegaMOC 2012 diorama "United States in the Fifties";

The huge windows shows 1:1 decorations from actual and upcomming movies.

Another good oportunity to "bend" the bricks, in order to achieve lovely curved surfaces!

Here you see the neighbouring building; The City Hotel.

With an elegant restaurant and outside terrasse. Quite european style, but what the heck, -it looks good!

The big naked wall on the side of the hotel will probably get a huge fifties-style billboard advertisement. They really add to the atmosphere...

People always ask about interior decorations and back side viwes.
So here they are;

And the other one (Notice the incredible details);

The pair says bu-bye;

This MOC was on the "Across MOCpages" from the 28/7 to the 31/7-2012. Entered with 71 smilies, and left with 78.

excellent! the build itself is right on, but the decals bring it to a level of realism that movie modelists would actually use, you re planning to do the next godzilla, or a sequel to the thunderbirds?...lol! incredible!

Nice job on the cinema. Very authentic looking. Certainly reminds me of a couple of old cinemas I went to years ago.

Absolutely stunning, Henrik. The best so far in my opinion. The back side view looks exactly like the one from my Daily Planet. Glad I'm not the only one building like this.

This is really good Henrik! I love the frontage of the cinema! I think this poster would look good on that empty wall http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_GXcmECXruhk/S64DOO4L5II/AAAAABCA/SpV-KD7w_Og/s1600/Attack-50-Foot-Woman.jpg :-)

More wonderful builds from you. I love the art deco cinema and the stylish European restaurant does look very good. It is great to see the background/structural shots – not as pretty but a great insight into your building style. Excellent stuff.

Quoting Joonmin Kweon Oh Wow. Awesome detail on the front door of the hotel. Do you make your own stickers?
Yes. Probably took me more than an hour trimming and applying the stickers for the cinema...

Wow, the shaping is amazing and the details are perfect for the era. The main lettering "ROYAL" is my favourite detail. The letters don't look like LEGO bricks at all. Great job! :-))

Henrick, there really isn't much to say here, except that the bow on the front of the cinema is not only revolutionary, but plain awesome, your smooth texture is a great and welcomed departure form the aging stud look, your techniques for design, and layout are superb, and all in all your skill and additions of groundbreaking MOC's add hugely to the flavor and atmosphere of MOC pages. But other than that, good build ;) Chris

Stunningly realistic, the architecture is incredibly detailed. These are some of the best town buildings I've seen, if the entire mega-MOC is populated by creations of similar quality then it will be a sight to behold indeed.

Another fantastic creation, I especially love the lettering and the bow - now I know how it is done ;-) But as an Art-Déco building - is it meant to be built before the Fifties? If it belongs to the decades 1920-1940 I'd very much like you to add it to the following group: http://www.mocpages.com/group.php/21037, will send you an invitation.

This is just simply beautiful. The techniques you used are terrific and the lines and details you have are perfect. I was blown away by this because it is so much more then brick and mortar. The marquee and signage are well done and I really love the box office and the up lighting details.

Quoting Nick Pascale Hope you didn't mind my suggestions! I guess you realize I loved this MOC!
Thanks for you enthusiastic comment! Your suggestions are welcome, but in this specific case there will be no interioir decoration, as these building are in "second line" against the backdrop. -There will be others with decoration, like the Diner. Regarding the poster on the naked Hotel wall, I havent decided on that yet. It will probably NOT be a movie-poster though. You see; the Greyhound bus-stop will be next to the Hotel, so it could be an ad for travelling. Regarding the year; As you have probably already seen from the 3 different movie-references on the cinema; the year is 1959 exactly, when the Vietnam war broke out...

I was waiting for a Marilyn Monroe mini to be around the corner! You picked one of my favorite 50's movies: SOME LIKE IT HOT! Did you know there was a Broadway MUSICAL based on this movie? "SUGAR" named after the MONROE character? Now back to the MOC - most would have done an umbrella and left it at that - you did the impossible and made it possible - a CLOSED UMBRELLA! You have a flair for the 50's when the world was a great place to live in for 6 short years we knew true PEACE. You captured that! I loved the hotel! A note - you could have used an American Flag Sticker on a 2x4 white tile and gave it a touch or realism as you did with the movie marque! Now usually some would have not wanted to see the "behind the scenes" back view but I found it to be like a HOLLYWOOD SET and so you kept the "Cinema" theme going! but a challenge for you! Let's see if you can do interiors for both the Cinema and the Hotel!I aslo loved the fact you chose the 50's a time when the world knew true PEACE! Now for the movie posters you said you'll put on the side wall of the hotel, try to use LEGO mini-figures in them! I am providing you with a link for inspiration! http://www.google.com/search?sugexp=chrome,mod=13&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=Lego+style+movie+posters Hope you didn't mind my suggestions!
