Baltharus is a small watchtower belonging to the Kingdom of Ondellor on the east coast of the kingdom. The role of the watchtower is to identify any threats coming in from the sea and send a runner up to one of the barracks that lie at the edge of the Ondellor Mountains, that will send soldiers to deal with the threat.

You already know how I feel about the water, but let me take to time to say that I love the windows on the tower, too. I must try building both sometime. Also, you did a great job with the composition of the build! The slenderness of the diorama along with the flow of the water onto the beach compliments the tower excellently. The only thing I would suggest you do next time, though; try and make the tower more consistent. You've got a lot going on in the diorama and the tower offers the only smooth, geometric surface for the eyes to rest. Don't get me wrong, you've put in some excellent techniques into it! But if you add more uniform repetition in the tower, the eye will tend to rest there, which is the point of the diorama in the first place. There's nothing wrong with getting everything else detailed, because you should; the tower should be a bit more cleanly, though. I hope I'm not sounding too condescending. Let me know if this helped at all. :P
Thanks for the criticism, and I completely agree with what you had to say. I would have included more repeating motifs in the tower, but I definitely don't have enough light grey 1x2's to make another floor, so I just had to settle. I'm glad you like the windows, I definitely would've included them in another level, had I the bricks. And again, thanks for the feedback.

Wow! A vey nice and simple diorama. I love how it is NOT overloaded and drowned in "action". It works very well as a whole. The slanted position of the tower, and the many greebly detials are wonderful. I espeically like how you use the grille element! I might borrow some ideas here... ;-) I didnt notice anything on the two water/coast shots, so I hope you will tell me what I am supposed to see.
I'd be honoured for some of the techniques in this to be used! About the thing you're supposed to notice, you can only really see it in the second picture, it's in the shallower water. |

That's amazing. The tower is wonderfully detailed, the water stunning, and the beach superbly textured. You have improved exponentially since the MocOlympics, keep it up!
Thanks! That's a great compliment, I'm certainly glad to have improved (maybe I can even get past round 1 this year?). |

I echo all the sentiments about the water, but I must also state that if I were to construct a beach, that would be the way I would do it. Love the four-tone gradation of depth, and the breaking waves are lovely. Great work all around. |

I like the colouring of the water a lot, it is surprisingly hard to make good looking water with trans-clear over blue, but you managed to do it well. On the other hand, the tower should either be a bit wider or the top needs to be narrower, because this looks dangerously unstable for a rock structure. Or is it made of concrete? |
