Pacific Union MRH-1 Scrubjay
They told me I could build anything, so I built something I always wanted to build.
About this creation
Good morning, afternoon, or evening viewer. This might be the earliest I've posted a MOC since 2009... Anyways, when Nick Shelton's STAR Corporation challenged OAAE in a contest of transport helicopters, Chairman Wilson broke out an old design that had never been commissioned by the Union, until now...

The Multi-Role Helicopter 1, or Scrubjay, plays the role of both troop transport, and heavy support, much like the old Soviet Mi-24. It can carry a squad of troops and two 20mm rotary cannons, plus eight anti-armor missiles and two general purpose rocket pods. Also possible is the armament of two 30mm rotary cannons, as you will soon see. It's two rotors give it a longer range and higher lift capacity, but consumes fuel at a greater rate than usual. All in all, it's better than the HAH-2 Phoenix it replaces.

This design dates back to 2009, right after the HAT-1. I tried to start on it, but in 2009, I was pretty bad, and couldn't make it happen. Now, it is here.

Front. Looks menacing, I think.

Top. Slightly blurry photo because my camera is 6 years old and refusing to die, so I have to keep using it.

Like almost all my aircraft MOCs, the Scrubjay is chubby from the side. See the IF-series of planes and HAH-2 for further evidence.

Doors really open!

Seriously guys, the doors actually can slide. I don't think I've ever been more proud of myself when I got this to actually work. Spent a whole day on it, I did.

The troop bay can kind of hold standing people... not really. They can sit, though!

The "door" to the cockpit. It's actually just a plate and tiles hiding the ugly beyond.

Here's those 30mms I mentioned earlier. Why would you ever do that, Awe? Why would you put two heavy-recoil guns on a helicopter of all things? For the same reason I built a 17-inch gun in a world of missiles. BECAUSE I CAN.

Closer view of one 30mm. I included a large ammo-drum for increased realism. Don't worry about shooting it for explosions, Ultra, it's pretty well armored. These guns can adjust their horizontal angle of fire, so they needn't worry about being far apart.

The Scrubjay has a neat little counter-recoil trick. A portion of engine exhaust can be diverted through channels in the wings and out the back of the guns, helping create an even more jarring ride.

Here's all the weapons (or should I say, wepons!) of the Scrubjay. People do shots like this on their own machines of war, except better-lit and better-arranged. Oh well, do the best you can with what you got.

Angry pilot is angry. There's a reason I chose that head, actually. See the red thing over his eye? It's his AI buddy targeting assistance technology helping him aim all the guns and fly at the same time. No need for another pilot. Or maybe Awe is looking for excuses about not being able to fit two guys in here.

Here's how I made the tilt. I know some of you are asking, even if you didn't speak up.

Bottom. Ian told me not to give in to the ugly, but this time I went with Nick's advice and said close enough on it.

Who needs stands? It sits perfectly fine on it's belly. I tried to make wheels, but they don't work well with MOCs this heavy.

That's all for now folks. Ian figured out how to make the wheels for the HAT-5 (deal with it), so that and another little truck are what's next on the MOC list. That, and more Unionball comics, for those of you in the know.

If I look real close, I can see how people mistake this for a Falcon, but the interior, armament on the wings, and the tail section destroy the "Falcon" appearence. However, I can certainly see the Mi-24 Hind in the body design, as well as a little bit of A-10, all mixed into a fantastic helicopter. Great work on the tilt effect, it's so simple and yet so effective once hidden.

Quoting Aidan Bryant Huh, thought I commented on this. It was something along the lines of this looks like a halo/avatar/every-sci-fi-out-there vehicle. How unorginal and copied it is. That's probably why MP ate my comment as it was full of nonsense. Great build, and I like your door solution.

Quoting Danny Morgan This might actually just trump the Alley Cat.... Probably not, but still a fantastic build.
NOTHING trumps the Alley Cat! NOTHING!

Great shape: a mix between an Osprey & EH-101 Merlin. Very realistic. The brick-built sliding side door is a nice bit of work.

Because Bungie totally invented the design for a dual-rotor gunship. Seriously, is there just no such thing as originality anymore?

I love the sleekness of this design! Alot of dual rotor MOCs look too blocky or awkward. This thing looks very aerodynamic and fast! Not to mention deadly! Great job!

Yeah, exactly. Wretched Halo kids, transverse rotors have been in use since WWII!

Quoting The Essence Of Randomness . Is this not a Falcon Awe? Can you really deny having inspiration from Falcons and Ospreys?
Ospreys? Maybe. Falcons? Get out of here! I started planning this before Halo Reach ever came out.
