MXSC-R2-Hideout-The Robin's Nest
After enduring months of whining and pouting from the Boy Wonder, the Caped Crusader 'caves' in and gives the lad his own private section in the Batcave, dubbed 'The Robin's Nest'...
About this creation
Built for Mr. Xenomurphy's Superhero Contest
Round 2:
Category 2.1 Hideout
Come up with a hideout for a superhero, who doesn’t have one but should have one. Do not use existing ones (like the Batcave or the Fortress of Solitude for example), build something new, like a hidden laboratory in an abandoned warehouse for Spider-Man. No size restrictions.

The Robin's Nest was meant to be a place where Robin could work on his new rig, The Tankard (a 16th birthday gift from Mr. Fox), store some of his childhood belongings or just escape for some 'me' time...

Batman: 'Robin? Now where did he get off to? I figured he'd have the Tankard half painted by now, the way he kept bitching about it being black. Why on Earth would anyone paint that thing red?'

Batman: 'Hmmm, maybe he's in here. I swear, if he worked as hard at catching criminals as he does at sleepping, we'd be retired by now!'

Batman: 'Robin? Baffling bell-towers, Boy Wonder!!! WTF?!?!

Robin: 'Uh, it's not the way it looks...?'

Moral of the story? ALWAYS knock before entering a teenagers room, even if he's a Superhero.

Additional images:

The Robin's Nest.

The Tankard's platform rotates for easy turn around.

A close-up of the Batbed. Every child should have one.

Some close-ups of the Tankard. I wanted it to look like a vehicle that might have been developed by the same group that worked on the Tumbler. Compact, fast and all-terrain, the Tankard is a single-seat vehicle with the same river-jumping capabilities of the Tumbler.

Since it's main operation was non-combat related, the Tankard's open cockpit design leaves the driver vulnerable to open attack, so until Mr.Fox develops some shielding, the Tankard is relegated to reconnaissance and back-up for the Tumbler, though this rarely deters the Boy Wonder...

...as you can clearly see.

Fourth Dimension Commentary: Whew! Nothing like waiting until the last minute! Unfortunately, family and other circumstances kept me from my bricks for a while, so it was a mad dash to finish this up! As of 8am, PST, Sunday the 29th, all I had done was Robin's messy room and 3/4 of the rock work around it; I still had the entire main chamber and vehicle to design, build, photograph and post. MANY cups of coffee later, here it is. I know that technically this is part of an existing hideout, though done for a hero that has none. Ultimately it may cost me, but I just couldn't get the idea out of my head, so I went with it; I hope you all find it worthy of the final round.

Lastly, a big thanks to Mr. Xenomurphy, Tiler, Shifu, Kevin and the Fisherman for devoting their time to this fantastic contest. Also, congratulations to my Fantastic Four fellows on some fabulous entries and a very competitive finals. You are all three very talented and deserving of your spots, despite the unfounded grumblings of certain non-competitors...
Excelsior!~H

your style + super hero theme is quite a wining combo! what strikes me in this piece is how versatile you can be, while most have a strong tendency in cars, or scenes, or buildings, but, are not as versed in others, you seem to cover all in style, there is nothing that is not beautiful, or could be better, ex perhaps size, very well done hans!

Fantastic! The build itself is great, including the batvehicle. Haven't seen that one before. Nicely done there. But this is one of those rare MOCs that made me laugh out loud. Batman catches Robin in his Princess Leia gear. Classic!

Oh...did you win this thing? You did? With THAT?! LMAO Of course you did! Who wouldn't dig that awesome tool box, batmobile bed, and the Tankard?! Well I know of at least one, but he's not invited to the party. ;) Excellent job on securing the win brother, and blasting all predictions of Kaleta stealing the show.

I'll begin by saying that I consider we have Four Fantastic Winners in this contest. Every single one has scored a top mark in his/her own particular way. Whether it was ingenuity in using available parts, sensitivity in chromatic choices, cleverness in manipulating ideas or plain (and sometimes subtle) humor, they all managed to really impress through fantastic, skillful MOC's. That being said, please understand that my score will ONLY reflect the sad necessity of having a first and second place in our contest, as I'm determined not to leave Xenomurphy to face this decision all alone. ----- As for your MOC: Last, but not least. As in Mr. Dave Kaleta's case, I won't insist on the mad building skills in creating the stone Batcave - I believe working with rocks might be one of your specialities - and I won't emphasize on the crazy amount of cool details in your MOC. Those few who know me might think I'll relate to the Batman theme and vehicles, with that crazy cool Tankard and the hilarious, "wannabe" Batbed. And yet none of these constitute the reason that makes it for me here. What really is the highlight for me is the ability to deliver a huge amount of humor and irony in illustrating a old dilemma: Is Robin... ? This definitely IS a hideout, as people who hide will always have their little secrets... Congratulations, Fantastic One :)! Your score = 10

Quoting Stewart Ramsey amazing! i love everything about it but i just have 2 questions, first off where did you acquire that very nice looking guitar next to the lamp and behind the bike, and the second question is the sock next to robin on his batbed (awesome touch btw) "in use" if ya know what i mean haha
The guitar is from BrickForge: https://www.brickforge.com/store/ Great custom accessories; I also purchased two of their scooters. As for the sock...that seems like a rhetorical question. =) ~H

Quoting Leda Kat =^..^= I LOVE that batbed so much!!! The rock working around the cave is top notch. Great entry, I was a bit worried you weren't going to make it!
To be honest, I was worried myself! But I mustered up my inner Stu and put fingers to brick. I'd hate to leave that 4th place spot empty! =P I'm glad you enjoyed the Batbed, it was the groundwork for the whole idea. I figured that Robin deserved a sanctuary after getting killed in the 1st round.~H

*insert batman joke here* Quite an amazing build, Hans. I'm very impressed with your rockwork, and I reread it 3 times just to notice the little things, like the open drawers and the general clutter of Robins room. I also thought the batbed was a great idea, and a nice touch. EDIT: I also just noticed the guitar in the corner. I know you didn't build it, but again, Robins room is excellent.
