Goodbye, No Refuge (The Missing Episodes; 39- The End)
As many of you have undoubtedly noticed, No Refuge II hasn't been updated in a few months. It saddens me to say that the story will not be completed in it's entirety. Between my youtube account with all the music I needed being accidentally deleted, and just not having any time to work on it and restore all the music, I've decided it's time to call it quits. However, I will finish TELLING the story. If you remember back to when I started production, you may remember that I was going to take all the pictures needed for a specific location for the series as a whole before creating a new set. Because of this, I do have some chapters finished. As for the ones that aren't finished, I'll just summarize.
About this creation
These are the final chapters of No Refuge II...

Part 39

Music

Jake and Loch reached the Resistance HQ.

Jake looked around at all the remaining damage and bodies.

Grief overwhelmed him at the site of General Carson.

Then something else caught his eye.

Jake: "This was hers, wasn't it? Right here... This is where she died..."

Loch: "I'm afraid so. Now come on. We still have a job to do here."

The two walked into the headquarters.

Jake and Loch stopped inside the hub.

Loch: "None of them made it..."

Loch: "Come on. I know a terminal that should still be working. Down in part of the labs you haven't seen."

Jake followed Loch downstairs.

Loch: "It's just down here."

Loch began working on the terminal.
Loch: "Yup, still working."

Jake: "How long?"
Loch: May take a minute. Not too long."

Jake turned around and found a stasis pod in front of him.

Jake: "AH!"

He looked to the other end of the room.

Armor from the Hunter was hooked up to some equipment. Jake walked over to it.

Jake: "There's something I don't know about the GHOST Program, isn't there Loch?"

Loch didn't respond.

Jake: "Loch... What aren't you telling me? What is this place?"

Loch gave out a long sigh.

Loch: "I don't wanna do this to you, but I think you'd better come look at this."

Part 40

Music

Jake started reading through the files.

Loch: "The G.H.O.S.T project was an experimental super soldier program... You were the fourth test subject."

"We returned to the Crown's dig site to see if your body was still there."

"We loaded you onto a Night Stalker and brought you here."

"We also found the Hunter."

"They scanned your brain. Read your memories. Now we know what the Crown was up to."

"They studied the Hunter and reverse engineered it."

"They used that technology to bring you back."

Jake's head lowered. He couldn't believe what he was hearing.

Loch: "I'm sorry Jake. I didn't know your memory would be gone."

Jake: "I loved her!"
Loch stood in silence.
Jake: "I couldn't remember her. I never really came back to her... And now she's gone and I'm back... It should have been me, not her... I died once already..."
Loch: "Jake..."

Jake: "Let's just go..."

Part 41

Jake and Loch return to the Heretic base just as Tye and Ashlin return from their recon mission. Cronus meets them outside. Tye and Ashlin confirm his suspicions of The Crown's shuttle launch site. Loch gives him the data from The Resistance HQ and they walk inside. Cronus looks through the files and explains his plan. The Crown has been taking people who they deem 'worthy' onto the shuttles and onto The Crowns main base of operations in Earth's orbit. The Heretics are going to go to the launch site at the old Blackburn facility and put an end to the launches, and an end to The Crown once and for all.

Part 42

Every goes to their quarters and the armory to prepare for the mission. Cronus approaches Loch and asks him to lead a special infiltration team to get inside the facility and stop the launch. Loch accepts and rallies his team together. They leave on a modified Raven dropship as Jake and the others begin heading out on foot and small vehicles.

Part 43

Loch and his group infiltrate the grounds around the facility. They get close to the shuttle undetected and begin scanning the area. The facility itself is too heavily guarded, so they break into the shuttle itself in hop of sabatoging it. They're spotted and the alarm inside the shuttle goes off. Loch and his team fight their way to the engine room and hold off the Crown while they try to bring the engine offline, but fail. The shuttle launches with the group inside.

Part 44

Music (I was able to remember this one)

The rest of the Heretics arrive at the base and begin the attack. The heavily fortified facility holds them off easily. Jake gets a transmission from Loch that they failed their mission and that the shuttle already launched with them inside. Jake relays the message to Cronus, who says to push into the facility for the other part of their plan. The group pushes forward in a losing fight. A Raven drops a hardsuit onto the battle, which Jake quickly destroys out of anger. No one is able to get inside the facility. Jake takes an alternate route around the battlefield and sneaks into the facility walls from behind. He takes out the soldiers inside and opens the gate. The Heretics swarm into the facility.

Part 45

Loch and his group begin sneaking through the halls of the shuttle, trying to avoid detection. They pass multiple cells filled with many people and labs where The Crown is continuing Project Aryan. The Crown finds the group and opens fire. The fight gets dragged into one of the labs, where some of the experiments get involved. Eventually, Loch and his group are overrun, and they surrender.

Part 46

The Heretics continue to try to break into the facility while Cronus gets a message from his inteligence agents that Crown reinforcements are incoming. He dispatches most of The Heretics to guard the facility from the reinforcements while the rest of the group gets inside. The Heretic army takes their position as Cronus, Jake, Tye, Ashlin, and some of the best Heretic troops enter the building. They fight their way deeper into the facility and into the lower levels until they get to the control room. They clear the room and seal the doors behind them. Jake approaches the mainframe, but Cronus explains that he doesn't need it. He walks to a large hatch in the floor in the far corner of the room and opens it. The group climbs the ladder down into the hatch.

Part 47

Music (I was able to remember this one)

The group enters an unnatural looking cave system. As they walk through, Jake notices small insect-like pods all along the walls with strange creatures inside. Cronus meantions only thinking they were a myth. Some of the pods are hatched already and the group begins hearing noises behind them. Suddenly, a swarm of the creatures comes crawling toward them. The group holds them off as they attack and a few of the soldiers are killed. The swarm finally stops and the group continues walking through the caves.

(These are roughly what the creatures look like.)

Part 48

Music (I was able to remember this one)

Jake asks what those creatures were. Cronus explains that they were a biological machine created and left behind by the first inhabitants of Earth, before Humans were created. He thinks that the excavations from The Crown must have awakaened them, which means they'll soon be awakened across the entire world. Jake asks what the Crown wanted with the excavation the destroyed. Cronus corrects him and say there are multiple axcavations going on around the globe, and the the city of Eden isn't the only place on Earth all of this is happening. He explains that the machines The Crown has been excavating are all part of a global defense system that was also left behind by the first inhabitants of Earth. Jakes wants to know more, but Cronus dismisses the questions and they keep walking.

Part 49

Music (I was able to remember this one)

Cronus continues to explain things to Jake. He says that needs to prepare for a great threat coming and that The Crown had it all wrong. Cronus plans to use the global defense system to destroy The Crown's base of operation in Earth's orbit and rid the world of them for good. Cronus will then take power and unite the world tp prepare for the coming threat. Jake and the others object to this plan and want to stop Cronus from destroying the space station with Loch and thousands of innocent people on it. Cronus has the groups hands bound as forces them to keep walking. They come into a massive artificial hole in the ground with a giant laser from the defense system coming up from the bottom of the pit and facing toward the sky through a gaping hole in the ground several stories above them. Cronus explains that when Jake destroyed the first machine in his fight with the Prophet, the explosion was full of what he calls 'Gods Light', and Jakes body absorbed it, making him the only one able to activate the defense system. He reveals that it was him that gave information to The Resistance that lead them to retrieve Jakes body from the ruins and to bring him back. Cronus walks jake across a giant bridge crossing the chasm to the controls for the laser. Jake refuses to start the machine, but Cronus forces him to, and the machine begins to charge.

Part 50

Music (I was able to remember this one)

Jake breaks free from his bonds and begins to fight back. Tye and Ashlin begin to fight back as well and eventually get out of their bonds as well. Jake begins to fight with Cronus as Tye and Ashlin hold off the soldiers across the bridge. Jake and Cronus eventually both fall of the side of the bridge and land on the lower ridges of the laser, where they continue to fight and argue. Jake kicks Cronus off the edge and begins to climb back up. Cronus catches a small ledge of the laser and begins to follow Jake back up. Jake manages to disrupt the lasers charge just as Cronus drags him back down. Jake gets knocked out as he hits the surface of the laser and Kira's pistol drops to the side. Cronus begins to rip open a small hatch on the side of the laser. He climbs inside and realigns some circuits, restarting the charging proccess. Jake wakes up just in time to see the laser finish charging and fire into the sky. This alarms everyone as they know the Crown's space station will come crashing down to the surface soon. Tye, now wounded, and Ashlin head for the caves and toward the surface. Jake closes the hatch on Cronus and climbs up to the controls. He runs into the caves, dodging the Heretics' gunfire and taking a few out on the way. He catches up to Ashlin and Tye and helps them out. The group runs out of the building and through the ongoing battle outside toward a Raven in the distance. They get inside and fly away just as the firey wreckage of the massive space station comes crashing down onto the city, destroying everything. The group flys away in the Raven as the last survivors of The Resistance.

Epilogue

Music (I was able to remember this one)

Jake, Tye, and Ashlin continue to fly away in the Raven. Jake tells them that they need to get out of the city before things get worse. Tye and Ashlin wonder what he's talking about. Jake tells them that he'll explain later. Most of Eden has been flattened now due to the crash of the space station. A lone Raven flies down toward whats left of the Blackburn facility. Cronus climbs out of the rubble and shoots one of the creatures from the cave crawling toward him with Kiras gun that Jake had dropped. Heretic soldiers exit the Raven and assist Cronus. He gets inside and tells the pilot:

"Get a message to FEMA that we have authorization to leave the quarantine. We need to get to the White House before those three do..."

Well, what did you guys think? Be sure to leave feedback and to speculate on any of the open questions I left at the end. I'm curious as to what everyone thinks.

While this is the end of No Refuge in comic form, you can still find out what was going to happen next. If I get enough interest, I might explain what my plans for No Refuge III were going to be in the No Refuge fan group forums. So, anyone interested?

Quoting Bryan Graham Great job on this series! Its been one of my favorite stories on MOCpages! Thanks for telling the missing episodes. It would be great to hear about the next parts of the series! I kind of know how you feel with getting too busy to finish a comic; I had to give up on mine a couple of years ago. I hope you will still do some Lego building whenever you have the time! :D
Maybe, but I don't think it'll easily overtake my new "building" hobby: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3CHl9m5Ozw In case you're wondering, yes I made the map AND the trailer myself :)

Fantastic ending! But I have so many questions!! Who are the original earth inhabitants? Why did Cronus want to go to the White House? Prehaps the original inhabitants are the "great threat" and are returning to reclaim their homeland? So many questions... I can only eagerly await the presentation of what NR3 was going to be and marvel at the amazingness of this series!

Quoting lone wolf this is the first time i have seen this series, i'll have to go back and see the others. But what happened to Loch, after they surrendered?
Loch and his squad were on the shuttle that docked on the space station. That space station was later destroyed by the planetary defense system that Cronus had Jake activate, as well as any shuttles docked with it. Everyone inside was killed.

Hahaha, ok ok. I'll start working on putting together some sort of "presentation". I want to show you guys what some of the backstory is, what some of the details will be in the novel version, and use music to illustrate some of my thoughts :)

Quoting Dragonax lord of all things black and creepy Hmmm... well, if my knowledge of HALO serves correctly, THERE WILL BE SPACE ZOMBIES!!! >:D
Lol, afraid not. Think more along the lines of Assassin's Creed, as well as the whole religious backdrop that was established in NR1 :)

Quoting Dragonax lord of all things black and creepy Hmmm... global defense network... ancient super weapons... can anyone say "HALO"? :D Extremely epic conclusion, the story is obviously inspired by HALO! I don't mean in a bad rip-off way, I mean in an AWESOME way :D
I took inspiration from a lot of different places when creating this universe. Halo, Prototype, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, Crysis, etc. But now I gotta ask, what do YOU think all of that stuff means, hm?
