Ambush on Amon Sūl- lego builders challenge entry
my entry for the lego builders challenge! come check it out, and say how you like it!
About this creation
a little story about the main picture: i wanted to make one that is really "attractive", one that makes you want to check out my fabulous *sarcasm* creation! did it work? you wouldn't be reading this if it didn't work now would you?

The vignette itself

a picture of the intire vignette. this is also the main picture of my entry. frodo is hiding under the cliff, and the ringwraith wants to stab him! but our hero, aragorn, is here to save the day! yaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!

slightly bigger angle.

Close-ups

there he is, frodo, our halfling from the shire, trying to hide under the cliff. i know that the book says frodo and the other hobbits were told to grab a stick, but this new sword i got with a heroica set works perfect!

aragorn, in the middle of his jump, about to beat the ringwraith of his horse! he isn't holding a torch, but a branch from the fire (yes i have torches too, but this worked better)

the ringwraith on his haunted horse... this is where this creation all began: an idea for the legs of a horse. when i heard of the contest LEGO was organising, i thought it wouldn't hurt me to join... anyway, the creation started with the horse, next came the idea of the ruines and well... you know how it goes... like magic, the rest came, piece by piece, together!

and yes, i once said i think black creation are a bad idea, because you can't really see what is going on from the pictures. well, i think i have to withraw my opinion, bacause these picturec came out really nice and clear! i might have something to do with the fact that i have a new camera...

action shot!!

the vignette, without the minifigures and the ringwraith! it was pretty hard to make, but i the results aren't that bad at all... i was planning to do the rocht entirely with cheese slopes and those 1x2 and 1x3 slopes, but i ran out of the really quickly, so i had to find an alternative...

textures

the first texture. i first planted some grass there, but it looked way to healthy. i realised i had a lot of those dark green cheese slopes, and they create a nice random moss texture. and a camp fire and a bucket of water... just in case ;)

no, that's not a beach, at the top of a mountain... i tried to make some sand, i really like this color!

first rock wall... running out of pieces, you see?

the upper stage... i wanted it to look like a tiled floor.

i don't remember where i saw this technique at first (it's a quite common technique), but it creates a nice brick wall. i used only dark grey tiles at first, but the melange of color looked better

the second camp fire. this one was a bit bigger than the one the hobbits created, but it
is alreaqdy extinguished... probably made by gandalf, or some other Dśnedain

the entrance of the tower. well, wat's left of it...

and the second rock wall...

close-up of the horse, how i did his neck... i won't call it an "illegal" connection, but rather an "unintended" connection, because there is no stress on the bricks at all...

fourth wall commentairy

no guys, this isn't that big creation i have upcoming, although thisone took me pretty long to make as well! unfortunately, i haven't got any of the new LOTR sets, so i had to improvise with the minifigs... and i do have the right parts to make the ringwraith like LEGO does, i just like this better. it is my entry for the contest, but for me, it was a way of trying out new textures... if you want to check the contest entry version, click here

so, you enjoyed my little creation? the like button is only a few clicks away! and while you're clicking that button, please notice the comment button over there as well :D

wish me luck!

Quoting Deus Otiosus Oh, cool! You managed to make the little flame piece to stay in the carrot! That is pretty hard to do.
hahaha, i know! it took me a lot of time to do that :D

Great work! The Wringreath looks great, as does the horse! I'd say it wasn't very playable, but i know it isn't supposed to be ;) Great details on this, I really like the bucket and moss effect:) great work!
