The Toyota MR-2 is one of my all-time favorite cars for its reasonable pricing, European styling, and competitive performance. The car's styling earned it the unofficial title of "The Poor Man's Ferrari". The MR-2 is a special gem in my eye because it has so much potential to be an earth shattering performance car, and at only 1/4 the price of a modern exotic. Here is my LEGO representation of both a stock, and radically modified version of the MR-2 Turbo!
About this creation
Front 3/4 view. Getting the near 'triangular' fog lights up front was no easy task.
Front view. The grill and fog lights are constructed upside-down.
Rear 3/4 view. The taillights turned out to be my favorite part of this model.
Rear view. Dual exhaust!
The glass "T-top" roof sections are removable as shown in this picture.
Again with the T-tops removed.
All doors open, but not the trunk in this picture.
Driver's side seat. I was originally going to build the car as left-hand-drive but made it a RHD due to the USDM turn signals I had already built.
Turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Plenty of power for a lightweight car.
Another rear view.
Hood and trunk opened.
Pop-up headlights! These are probably my best fitting pair yet, but they don't look as nice as some of my previous pop-up lights.
The lights came out looking a bit too flat on the front.
Now for the fun part! The widebody modified version!
Full widebody kit with scoops and intakes aplenty. Large intercooler mounted up front! Yellow fog lights too!
Side view of the heavily customized car!
Rear 3/4 view. Notice the new spoiler and bulged hood.
Rear view. Smoked black taillights!
Smoked black turn signals as well! The pop-up lights were replaced with fixed HID projector lenses.
Everything still opens up!
Engine now has a painted valve cover and twin cold air intake.
Rear 3/4 view. I like the way the body kit contours to the rear bumper from this angle.
Money shot! If you're wondering why I chose Coca-Cola vinyls, it's simply because of the colors I chose. I figured it would suit the car well!
