Welcome to my very literal take on my chosen category for R1 of the MOC Olympics.
About this creation
Category : Yellow Submarine
Link : 2012 MOC Olympics

Not just any yellow submarine, though, this one's a multi-purpose vehicle.
It's designed to be driveable on land, as well as to swim...

It's powered by 2 XL Power Functions motors, and these drive each side wheel independently. Drive can be switched to the propellors via the twin gearboxes behind the motors, and the props can be swivelled for maximum manoeverability underwater.
There's also suspension by swing axles. And it's got pretty lights.
A short video of it working can be found on Flickr

Just in case you thought those figs at the front weren't concentrating on driving, it's the lady at the back who controls things. She doesn't need to see out too well - she's got a periscope...

Interior without figures - maybe those two lazy so-and-so's are out exploring under the sea... no, their scuba gear is still here.

... The business end...

Altogether now : We All Live In a Yellow Submarine, A Yellow Submarine, A Yellow Submarine....

The only way in, hence the ladders on the sides.

Those motors, mounted low and centrally for stability. Much needed, as there's only 3 wheels, and the rear one is a castor... It'll steer by cutting power to one wheel.

The Technic fans' money shot.

Thankyou for visiting our Yellow Submarine!

Great, Nick, only you can build a strange vehicle like this! I love it! :-)) It's like a 007 Lotus Esprit mixed with a yellow Fugo fish, adding some Technic propulsion systems plus RC PF and classic "Maxifigs" and - tadaaa - you get a 007 Yellow Submarine :-)) Great job! :-)) |

This is stunning. I do not have a mind for power functions, so I'm always doubly impressed by it. The form of your sub is great. I love the interior. And what would a Beatles MOC be without some place to lounge;) The nice thing about this build is your literal interpretation. Although I'm not competing, I have been watching the MOCOlympics with rapt attention, and I knew your category choice immediately. |

Fantastic and very original creation, I love everything about it, especially the shaping of the whole thing and the functions, of course. Since it's amphibious it could have been the vehicle for both Yellow Submarine AND Magical Mystery Tour! Missing the other three of the Fab Four on board, though, but the girls are nice, too ;-) Good luck in the contest! |

If I were a betting man i would wager that no-one else will get close to you for functionality in this round Nick, but it's also fun and playable, full of whimsy and has all the excellent shaping you demonstrate in the bodywork of your large car builds. Looks great to me, I hope the judges like it too! Great job and good luck. |

Spendid stuff Nick! It's quirky cool! I love inventiveness like this, It looks so retro. Love the shaping at the front and the use of the Maxi-figs. One thing I think could improve this is to make the tail fin larger, it looks a little on the small side. Any how best of luck with this, I belive you'll do swimmingly. I won't be able to challenge you in the next round this year :-( got far too much on. I've just started an amazing new job which involves some beautiful cars, I won't say too much more, I'll probably make you jealous lol

There's so much to praise and enjoy here. The idea is brilliant and original. It seems to come from the same era as the 70's figures inside the fish (I've a few of those figures somewhere in my Lego collection). The shape of the vehicle is great and has some nice curves built with square bircks. The interior has fun details to play with and the working propellers are a wonderful touch. Excellent! |
