"Hello, I'm Johnny Cash."
About this creation
For this round, I wanted to stay truer to the actual categories. I am a big fan of Johnny Cash and the song "Ring of Fire", so I wanted to create something that would honor him.
I found a photo of Cash outside of Folsom Prison where he performed live for the inmates. I decided a cube dude with a small backdrop would fit the bill. I also created a version of Cash, The Man in Black, performing with his guitar.

I included reference photos of my inspirations and a photo of the simple yet, somewhat challenging (for me) prison gate. I also wanted to catch Cash's pompadour, which I think I did a pretty good job at.
Other than cropping and turning the photos into black & white, no other photoshopping.
My bricks are limited, so I don't expect to go very far, but I wanted to give the MOs a shot. Maybe I will make it into the next round and get my butt kicked by George, Leda or one of the heavyweights I admire so much.
Thanks & enjoy.

Nice perspective work. Also, solid incorporation of the theme in a non-obvious but immediately recognizable way. |

Great work. As soon as I saw the photo I thought, "Johnny Cash". I like the quiff and the technique on the arch on the prison. Don't worry about how many bricks you've got, just keep on using them intelligently like this :) |

Stuart's right - it's not how many bricks you've got, but what you do with them; and you've done a perfect tribute to a great artist that respects the category in a way few entries have managed. See you in R2, so long as I make it. |

I like this a lot, you've captured JC and the prison superbly. Don't understimate yourself, sometimes in this kind of contest a smaller but perfectly executed build beats a big sprawling one. (Not much you can do about the folks you mention who do big, perfect builds though!) |
