after undergoing major renovation works, Legolopolis Cathedral is rededicated as Basilica Menor. An idea came up after having given up on the defunct 4.5V battery trains...i had to find some good use for my old railroad tracks. Do note extensive use of the 1980's railroad tracks as architectural features while the roofing structure is made up of railroad ties from the same era.
It was fun to see the clear/light bricks come together as stained glass that filter light into the high ceiling. The choir loft features a grand piano that overlooks the High altar placed in the middle of a SNOT tile flooring (Red carpet middle, green and white (of course!) floor pattern all around). A lot of technic bricks come together with regular bricks where overall effect softens the corners made by traditional Lego brick laying.
It sits on a 64 stud by 48 stud area and is the first structure to be featured in the medieval township area of Legolopolis. At 64 bricks high, it stands as the tallest building in the area after the Royal Palace.

I don't tear things down once its built...its a private collection...not an exhibition that runs for a limited time. : ) |

This is an impressive build! I love how those old railway tracks are incorporated, and the flying buttresses out of arches is a technique I've not seen before. Inside and out, this is a marvellous MOC! |

This has that very cool Gothic look. Its not the largest cathedral I've seen built in bricks, but I think that makes achieving the details harder. You have captured many gorgeous details here, but its the stained glass window that steals the show. Well done! ~Thoy
I've been following your work, Thank you for the very kind words. Its a building made out of what's available and the "need" to use the old railroad tracks i have lying around. Things did turn out nicely. Thank you again. |
