Today around 7:30 am, a passing man saw smoke coming from the attic of a house.
He warned the next door petshop owner, she then warned the owner of the house.
The house owner said that a student was hiring his attic, and went to investigate.
At the door of the attic, he saw a lot of smoke, and felt heat coming through the door.
The man evacuated his wife and daughter, and called 911.
Studdsville Engine 13, Engine 14 and Ladder 13 responded to the adress.
When Engine 13 arrived on scene, the captain noticed the smoke from the attic window was getting worse.
He asked Battalion Chief 1 on scene.
2 members of Engine 13, went in for a primary attack.
A few seconds lader Ladder 13 arrived, and started a primary search of the fire adress.
Engine 14 layed a 3rd attack line and worked at the back of the structure.
When Battalion Chief Brickfield came on scene, he immediatly called for a 2nd alarm,
cause reports were coming in that the student was still in the attic.
3 members of Ladder 13 went up in the basket of the aerial and 2 of them gained entry to the 3rd floor via a balcony window.
Rescue 5 came on scene, and started to evacuate the next door appartment and pet shop.
Ladder 14 rolled up at the scene, and started venting operations,
also a PPV was set into the pet shop so the animals inside wouldnt suffocate in the smoke.
While Squad 17 acted as FAST/RIT.
The missing student was found, and rescued from the attic, she was brought to hospital with a smoke intoxication and minor burns.
Within 40 minutes the fire was put out, and overhaul started.
The fire marshall did an investigation, and reported that the fire was accidental.
