About this creation
Category, City block: Build a city block complete with storefronts and all the goings on of a regular, every day city.
My worthy opponent's page.
The MocOlympics.

Here we see a skater dude about to faceplant into a palmtree, and a mime following a beach goer. :)

Here we see some building rooftops.

A view down the street.

A bird's eye view from the top of a hotel.

A hippie and his rooftop garden.

A view of the hotel.

A view of the jetty, the beach, and the street front.

A view of the top of the hotel.

A shot of the blue building.
_________________________________________
Fourth wall commentary,
This build was quite a challenge, As most of you know I usually build plant heavy, castle(ish) scenes, and I hadn't built a city MOC in over 7 years..
So this definitely got me out of my "comfort zone" and looking back now, it was rather refreshing. :)
Thanks for viewing! Have a great day! :)

Very well done on advancing. I wondered how your aptitude for landscaping would translate into a city scene but by using beachfront properties you've given yourself something natural to work with and break up the linear structures. Great balance of colours, cool details, really nice build all-round. Good luck going forward! |

Wow! Incredible entries here! The blending of past in present in Justin's build almost earned him my vote, but in the end, your contrast between city and nature, rock with sand, and some lovely architectural styles in addition to some impressive parts-repeating techniques and sunshiny colors earned you my vote. See you in round 3! Dinosaurs leaning out of windows are always a pleasure, by the way. |

Brilliant!! So many details everywhere, you really made it realistic! With all the different atmospheres and mini-scenes mashed in here, I felt like I was walking down the street. Especially great considering you are a castle builder; I have a bad feeling this category would have result in disaster for me xP Once again, fabulous!
Thanks A M! :D |

Good lord! All that in merely seven days?! That is extreme, my friend. Great work on the contrasts between beach and city, with an eye for texture on walls and sidewalks. How you integrated some collectible minifigs is my fav feature; the mime on the beach: genius! And the white sand seats are pure eyecandy... Good luck with your judges!
Thanks Giovanni! :)
I actually built this in less then five days as the first two days of the MO were spent working on a "medieval city block". http://www.flickr.com/photos/mark-of-falworth/8027698403/in/photostream/
That apparently wouldn't fit the guidelines...
I'm glad you noticed the beach chairs! I spent hours trying to get them just right. :)

I gotta hand it to you, you really can build. I mean, this is a masterful city-scape, despite the fact that it's not your chosen genre. The amount of detail is fantastic, and the over-all composition is top-notch. Awesome work, best of luck in the games. Hopefully you'll continue to expand your repertoire, if you build half as well in other themes you'd still be better than most.
Thanks so much, man! That means a lot to me! :D

Wow, Mark. This looks extremely impressive! Your really giving me a run for my money;) There's so much to take in, you've really accomplished some real eye-candy here. I just love the vibrant, real-life, fell you've captured. My first idea was to make a scene form Venice Italy, thank heavens I didn't other whys that would be quite the clash of "Venice's"! Once again, incredible job and I wish you the BEST of luck, Mark! :) By the way, I should be posting mine in the next couple of days, so keep your eyes peeled because it should be quite a close match;D
Thanks Justin! :D
