About this creation
2012 MOC Olympics.
Bracket 2
Leda Kat vs My name is Anonymous
A long time ago, in a category far, far away... STAR WARS!
Please check out my opponent: My Name is Anonymous
I love Lego, it is my obsession, but before I discovered Lego my greatest and oldest obsession was and has always been Star Wars. It was through selling some of my Star Wars action figures a few years ago that I actually stumbled, almost by accident, across Lego. How wonderful it was to see this category next to my name! Finally I have the excuse to really let rip and dedicate my new obsession back to my old one.

I didn't even hesitate, I had to do Max Rebo's band from Return of the Jedi. Taking my favourite group of vintage toys in hand (they even went to work with me and sat at my desk so I could keep looking at them all through that first day) I designed my diorama.

It is based on the special edition for a couple of reasons. 1: I like the extra creatures and the whole new song and dance number is way cooler than the original. Yeah, I said it. and 2: I only have the special edition for reference... I have an original copy on VHS. What is that you may ask? Well, I'm not sure... something ancient. I tried and tried but I couldn't jam it into my DVD player.
Let us meet the band:

Max Rebo.

Droopy McCool.

Sy Snootles.

Rappertunie.

Joh Yowza.

Jabba's throne room set.

May the force be with you, judges and fellow competitors.

Hello again, Leda. You have really struck a chord with me on this particular build. Not just because of the skills that went into it, but because you have paid homage to my favorite movie of my favorite trilogy. I keep coming back to have another look. I would like to feature this on my Pick of the Week in the future, as always, with your permission. I normally try really hard to find works that haven't gotten the most notice, but I simply can't pass this one up.
Thank you Tim for your lush praise. It makes me feel all "aw shucky" of course you can feature this on your page, I would be honoured. |

Absolutely fantastic work – this category was tailor made for you :D. I love every aspect of this especially the piano thingy. I have the original toys too (from the 80s) and I must say these are an almost exact replica. I really like the close up of Joh Yowza – just like in the special edition. Good luck with the rest of the contest :D |

My goodness, the long wait to build your first SW MOC and it's an absolute gem! Regardless of which version one is a fan of (original), the epic quality of each figure renders the argument moot. Magnificent parts usage to recreate them so accurately, no detail is spared! Then, to top it off, the background. You could easily have skimped and still won this with the figures, but instead used great shading and those sweet steps to create unbelievable depth. From one SW zealot to another, the Force is definitely strong in you!~H

Leda! I swear, you never fail to put a smile on my face with your MOCs. I loved Snow White, and I was impressed with Labyrinth...you left me speechless with Michael Jackson, but this may be my favorite yet. Star Wars provides most of my inspiration for my MOCs, and you have captured, yet again, the essence of the scene you chose. You have absolutely defied the limitations of LEGO to create such accuracy in each band member. Max is my favorite and his keyboard thing is perfect. The forced perspective stairs in the background was very much a success for you as well. I don't think I've ever seen that before. Great work and good luck in the MO.
Thank you for such a great comment! I love to play for ages and figure out which part could work for a section of a figure. I don't really know any techniques so I tend to just stick things together until it works. Max's trunk went through lots of different looks I even thought I might have to buy some bionocle part or something to make it work. I'm not even sure what prompted me to use a minifig... it was late at night... very late at night. When I woke up he had a minifig hanging upside down off his face. |
